Bluetooth retrofit to Yeti SE with Amundsen

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2012 Yeti SE.  It was fitted with an Amundsen Sat/Nav / Media Player - I believe because of supply issues with the standard Bolero unit when it was manufactured (or something like that, I'm not 100% sure)

Anyway, my car does not have Bluetooth currently - no options in the menus etc.and I'm trying to find out if it's possible to retrofit ?  I've searched and read a few threads which describe a Bluetooth module being installed under the seat but I can't find any specifics about what module and what other components are required if any (microphones etc.)

My main requirement is for audio streaming.  Our other car has a Dab head unit with Bluetooth, and it's great being able to continue listening to podcasts which are downloaded automatically onto my iPhone

Can anyone point me towards some info on Bluetooth retrofit ?

Many thanks

Pete

If you are not bothered about being able to make phone calls, then maybe the VAG MDI unit might be better.

You can plug your phone/iPod/HD/USB stick in and charge it at the same time as controlling it from the HU.

Gives more functionality than the BT audio streaming and is easy to fit.

It's basically a wiring loom, module and extension cable to the glovebox (officially) or pretty much anywhere you want it to go.

Hmm, OK thanks - will look into that.

I wonder about the compatibility issue though.  I have an iPhone 5, the wife has an Android phone which of course have different charging/data sockets (Lightning / Micro-USB)   Will investigate further

On the Bluetooth front - I understand the FISCON 38099 or a MObridge unit (found on ebay) will do what I want.  Anyone any experience of installing/configuring those units in the Yeti ?

We've fitted a few BT units to Yetis over the last few months, I can't help with the compatibility with the Amundsen but the chap we've used does get steering wheel functionality and MFD data display and has so far worked a treat.*

I had a VW branded MDI retrofitted to my 10 elegance. The end of the lead in the glovebox terminated with one of two short leads one 30 pin apple and one USB. I suspect that you could now acquire one of each of the leads (new apple/micro usb) and swap accordingly.

There has been some debate about whether the Apple adapter will work with the iPhone 5 due to the lightning connector requiring an adapter.

I can't remember what the outcome was, but there are threads on here with people asking the question.

Go on www.carsystems.pl I have retrofitted bluetooth to my octavia vrs & my wife's yeti, buying both modules from them. They supply the original skoda bluetooth units so you have full function with maxidot & mfsw if you have them. Simple to fit & if you email them to ask any questions you have re compatibility etc they are very helpful.

thanks all for the replies

MikeWales - that looks a good solution, but I'd prefer something which integrates with the Amundsen ideally.

JCP : Will look into the MDI adaptor some more.  However, the thing i really like about the Bluetooth in my other car, as soon as you get in it Resumes playing whatever I was listening to previously on the phone.  No need to plug anything or search though folder etc.  Really neat solution.

Fatwomble : (Hello from a  fellow SELOCer !)  How do you find the quality via Aux In ?  Mine always seems to have a fair bit of background hiss. Nothing too bad, but certainly noticeable.  Thanks for the idea though - I've got an old Philips Bluetooth adaptor lying around somewhere so I might give this a go.

brookfold1 : Had a look at carsystems website but it's not so easy to decipher which models I would need.  Have dropped them a line
