06 fabia vrs belt intervals

Featured Replies

I bought a 06 fabia vrs about 2 month ago

Car had 56 1/2 thousand roughly.

Now coming close to 60k I was wondering if I am right in thinking that the toothed belt is a posh name for the timing belt .

Let me know if im wrong

Ive worked out that the car was new in march 06

Anyway looking through the service history the car had this replaced along with the tensioning pulley in december 2011 at 44.442 miles

So was replaced 5year intead of 4 as reccomended . I can only this may be due to the low mileage done by previous owner .

Would the belt need changing now or would it be ok

Had mine done around that mileage with car in it's 5 year. 2010.

Mileage now at 74500, will not get it done for at least another 2 years ( 2014/5).

Arguments with Skoda have left it down to the individual really.

Rule of thumb for me (my own opinion) every 4/5 years or every 60,000miles.

In your case, your car was done only 2 years ago and has since covered 16,000 miles.

My opinion let car go for another 2 years, until 2015 (total 4years lapsed) or mileage reads 120,000miles.

I asked same question on here a year or so ago. Answer was 60k or four years. I had mine done at 63k and seven years old. no coment by main dealer on condition ,so I'd say mine was OK, but over 4ryr/60 , it's a gamble of new engine vs cambelt/waterpump and tensioner. And don't forget the coolant gets changed as well .

Plenty of info on the Fabia pinned usefull Fabia information in here.

I am only looking at what I've seen on here, but you say ( I'm supposing it's a diesel and belt is same as mine), it was last changed at 44.5k ( approx), and it's only done 60k now . Belt was changed in 2011. So on both mileage ( 15.5k ) and age ( 2 yrs) ,from info on here, ypu've got another almost 45k miles or two years before it needs changing( unless Skoda review the situation)

And I'm only an owner, not an expert .

"december 2011 at 44.442 miles"

So, good to at least December 2015 / 104,442 - which ever comes first.

^ Reckon so & responded to this under General Maintenance. ;)
