First ever styling

Featured Replies

Just finished my first ever "thorough" detailing of a car. Turned out quite good if I may say so myself :-D

The thorough bit depending on who's reading this :p

By the way, how do you guys differ between styling and detailing? I understand the words - just not sure about what falls under which category?

'Detailing' would be a 'professional' level cleaning basically.. cleaning, claying, machine polishing, wax protection.. all rubbers cleaned and treated etc.

'Styling' isn't really a term I've come across with regard to detailing. I'd associate that with slight visual modifications, different wheels, window tints etc. :)

As said

In my opinion there should be two separate sections here...as they are totally different

I've never heard of the term 'styling' I'm afraid. Detailing is what the U.S. call valeting, but over here it's considered and probably quite well accepted as to be a higher level of valeting. For many detailing is going that bit further (hence 'detail') and consider it a higher standard of car cleaning. We've all seen what valeters do, many are great but there's also many that aren't and these are the ones that get remembered.

Detailing would be considered valeting with more attention to detail in the use of specialised chemicals (ie, tar and glue remover, iron fallout removers and paint cleansers), hand polishing or machine polishing (ie, rotary, DA (both forced rotation and reciprical), use of sealants and coatings, attention to how the vehicle is washed in the first place, etc... The list can be endless.

For me detailing is going that bit further either making it look new or better tahn new. You don't have to be a 'professional' to detail, many are 'weekend warriors' like myself that do thereown and/or friends and family cars for the enjoyment of it.
