Grille wrapping.... Nightmare!

Featured Replies

More of a rant than anything, but jesus christ what a royal pain in the arse this is!

I've never wrapped anything before, so perhaps the grille isn't the best place to start....  Tried wrapping it in a single piece, and it's plain and simple too big a pain in the arse to get it right. I might very well have 'skilled' status, but I ain't skilled enough to do this!!!

So I'm just going to spray it!! That at least I know I can do!

ARGH!!! Rant over!

It can be done with a single piece, mine had a tiny crease at the bottom but looked pretty good. Did you use a hair dryer?

Sprayed mine the thought of trying to wrap it seemed hard

Get yourself a heatgun..made it so much easier when i did mine..

Did mine in 4 pieces Alex, used carbon wrap and you can hardly tell :) I would like to get it layered in real carbon at some point.

Plastidipped mine just this weekend. No skill involved. No prep. Just clean the grill and spray 4 coats. Couple of hours work. Looks brilliant. Simples.

Well I got home a while back from my unit. It's now in primer! Most definitely didn't have the patience for that!! Will rub it down tomorrow and get some base coat on, then lacquer the next day.

Took the opportunity to paint my fog light surrounds at the same time...

As for the rest of the wrap, I did the 4 interior vents - I'm very pleased with the results for my first attempt :-)

The vinyl on those might lift a little from the heat, mine did in the baking hot sunshine this summer. I've since sprayed them :)

Wrapped the grill and vents etc in the Octavia and found it a bit of a pain. Using a hairdryer was helping, but I ended up over stretching it in parts

Sprayed the Fabias, much easier but its got a few stone chips and needs redone soon.
