Power Steering Fluid Cost and availability

Featured Replies

Hiya

Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for some Power Steering Fluid, and if its available from anywhere other than a Skoda Dealership ?

I am i South Manchester and to be honest am totally fed up with Lookers and swore never to give the another penny so if possible would like to buy from elsewhere.

Cheers

Andy :-)

Thanks for the quick reply Lee.

Do I need to be a trader to use them or will they sell to the general public as well ?

Also, any idea how much I should  be looking to spend, some places selling power steering fluid for a fiver then others at over £20 !!

Cheers

Hi Again

Just been on the TPS website and it says

"Register your interest

The TPS network is dedicated to supplying the needs of the independent motor repairer.
Please note that it is a service that is NOT available to the general public. If you require Volkswagen Group parts please contact your local Authorised Repairer who will be happy to source and supply any part you require."

WIll they ask to see anything if I just turn up at the Trafford Park shop ?  Sorry if its a newbie question. I got 1 hour free tomorrow morning to sort this out and dont want to drive into Trafford Park if I cant get served.

Cheers both of you for recommending TPS,

Andy :-)

I've never had a problem at my local one. If they ask 'account?' I just say 'private job'. They've never refused me yet.

Thanks again Lee. Will give them a go tomorrow.

Not the cheapest but I had a VW dealer round the corner Vs Skoda being 20 miles away.  When my rack was leaking badly I just used to cycle down to VW and pick a bottle up if I needed it urgently to get me by before the rack was changed.  Circa £10 a bottle.

Hi all

Thanks again for all the replies. Had great success with TPS in Trafford Park Manchester, very friendly, very knowledgeable and happy to sell to me as a Private Individual and not trade.  Saw on thier invoice they have a sale on for Batteries this Wed, been quoted £40.18 inc VAT for a new Type 96 Battery for my Skoda which is pretty good.

When I was searching I could never find details on which exact fluid was needed for the SDI. So to help anyone else who might be searching and come accross this thread here are the details.

My car is a 2002 1.9 SDI Fabia Estate

The Power Steering Fluid has a part number of

G 004 000 M2

The Bottle looked like this with a green cap.

and I paid £9.31 inc VAT and picked up from there premises this morning.

When topping up, it looks like green fairy liquid, which matched what was already in there, def not the Red stuff that some people have talked about putting in thier Fabias.

Hope this helps others, sometimes its the Obvious Knowledge thats missing from the web, I spend ages yesterday trying to find out for definite which Fluid to buy.

Cheers

Andy :-)
