Amundsen+ Sat nav data

Featured Replies

Hi,

Reading through my car manual yesterday night (there wasnt much happening in work!) i read about updating the Satnav data in the fabia. it implies that i should have an SD card specific to the unit to allow me to remove it and update it in future.

When i collected the car, i asked about the sat nav CD's ( like i have for the octavia) to be told its no longer on CD's and is on and SD card instead.

Question is:

Should i have the SD card and not the dealer?

How do i go about updating the Sat nav data (reading around it appears Skoda now offer 3 years free updates)

Anyone know anything more on this?

Cheers

As far as I know Skoda have not updated this unit since 2011/12 there is a lot on the forum about it my 2012 Blackline was out of date when I bought it new the Amundsen+ that is? There is no new data yet unless someone can prove me wrong. Some dealers offered to sell me data that proved to be the same as the data on the unit, you will probably have to wait+wait+wait! until somebody pulls there finger out.

I asked the dealer for the sd card they said you do not get them with the unit. If you want to update the maps it will cost me £££££££s.And i wanted to know if you can change the voice from her that shouts at you. (not the wife) :giggle:  They said ??? erm

The map data is internal on the Amundsen+ that we have in our Techs.

The old Amundsen had two SD card slots, one for the maps and one for music and stuff like that, ours only has the one SD card for music and stuff as the maps are on an internal hard drive.

If a software update is needed then it has to be loaded via a disc but as far as I'm aware there are no updates for it at present.

When I was PDI'ing Renaults, the SD cards for the TomTom were left with the car in the glove box. No idea what the dealers did with them upon delivery. Your car, your sat-nav, your SD card.

I don't believe Skoda supply them with the car, it's preloaded for the market.

Some manufacturers do, my Nissan came with an SD card in one if it's two slots.

I asked the dealer about this when I collected my car last month and he said if an update is available they will do it during service. I think they do map updates etc. at this time too so makes sense

not true. The old Amundsen had one slot and it was necessary to have a CD loaded constantly for mapping data. It was possible to copy data to an SD and run it from there freeing up the CD slot but you lose either or. The non plus versions have no inbuilt NVRAM, the plus has 4Gb.

to update the mapping data on a plus unit you buy the card from skoda, stick it in the SD and tell it to write to the car. Its use once only, the card cannot be reused in another car.

Cheers for that, that's what I was told when I asked a similar question a while ago so I stand corrected.

As far as updates are concerned, it will always come with the most recent mapping/software when new so there'll be no updates for a while.

I would've thought any updates would be done by the dealer during routine servicing within the first 3 years, it's a bit steep if you were charged for it though.

TomTom and Garmin offer free lifetime updates now so surely major car manufacturers can do the same.
