Removing plastic wheel trims on a Fun

Featured Replies

I love a challenge, so i thought that i would give it a go,

That is to remove a Fun plastic wheel trim WITHOUT breaking it.

Got out a set of guitar strings,

Levered away the plastic, enough for the guitar string to slide in

Started Sawing away as per info on this forum

Useless, Ya cant do it............end of story, ..........The adhesive holding the trim on is too hard and the sting wont cut through, I tried for over half an hour and broke two, and only got in an inch

Plan B,

Using two old thin 2" paint scrapers, and a small hammer, i started on the inner rim, Knocking the scraper in to break through the glue, Took my time,....... then started on the outside, worked from both sides , and off she popped' took about an hour, but i did smoke ten fags and have two cups of tea, I did this so you dont have to............

summary, guitar strings?

I recon that the member who recommended using these had a guitar shoppost-103514-0-60513300-1379976933_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-30165800-1379976939_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-14158200-1379976947_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-14953000-1379976953_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-58122500-1379976959_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-60156800-1379976971_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-03281600-1379976977_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-39501000-1379976985_thumb.jpgpost-103514-0-10185100-1379977000_thumb.jpg

Which string did you use? I seem to recall it had to be a roundwound (a bassier) string as the winding acted like a saw.

Nice to see it can be done *relatively" easily :)

^ Useful to know it can be done applying the slightly more old fashioned approach.

Perhaps with the guitar strings it was just a case of hitting the right chord!  :giggle:  ;)

I found the wire to cut window screen to work well on my seal but took ages going to have to try this as they need to come off tiger seal to stick them back on after or is there a better way now....
