Which brake fluid?

Featured Replies

Hi tried searching this before posting but came up blank in the search engine.

I just want some advice on what brake fluid people use in a mk2 vRS (TDI)

Is Skoda good enough or is there better aftermarket brands that people would recommend.

But don't mix the different DoT numbers - they're not compatible.

Yes you can. Dot 3 will mix with 4 and 5 will mix with 5. You can't mix 4 with 5.

Dot 3 and 4 are std brake fluid.

Dot 5 is a storage fluid.

Dot 5.1 is high performance fluid.

yea you've gotta watch the compatability. dot 3 and dot 4 are compatable.

dot 5 is not compatable [ unless you've got dot 5 already in there ] unlikely though

I used Pagid Dot 4 when i changed my brake fluid this week on my octy.

Thanks for the correction Meta55b.  I guess I was just half right!

You can mix dot 4 and dot 5.1.

Halfords do some 5.1 and I've used it for the last couple of years. Dot 5 doesn't mix.

A mate of mine has started using ATE Super Blue on his bimmer wagon and now swears by it. 2800C boiling point so less brake fade. I'll try it myself when my next fluid change is due but that's not until april.

Cheers guys won't be mixing brake fluid car is due a change of brake fluid. Pagid dot 4 seems to be the norm but I'm intrigued by the ate superblue

I have superblue.... on the road you won't notice difference over standard it is better for track days when the brakes get really hot through constant hard use.

Okmy car doesnt get any track use, I just want to upgrade when I do the fluid change as whatever is in it now (Skoda I think) and I do get brake fade when driving on granted its due a fluid change so granted the fluid isnt going to be as good as it should.

Cheers for the help guys, think I will go for the Pagid dot 4 as superblue might be a bit overkill when the car doesnt get any track use.

This is the stuff I swear by. Ive had my pads smoking like mad but the fluid was fine. Great performance and affordable. :)
