vRS Rear Spoiler Paint Issues

Featured Replies

Noticed a couple of marks on the rear spoiler on my car a few weeks ago. Paint was completely smooth so didn't make sense.

More recently however, the left one has got bigger and the paint or clearcoat/lacquer has sort of bubbled up and lifted off the paint (Not the best picture unfortunately, but it's the lighter patch in the middle).

Has anyone had these issues before? Can I go back to a Skoda dealer and get it sorted under warranty or is paying for a respray the only option. Car is only 6 years old so didn't expect this!

It's a quite common issue I'm afraid! There's a few topics about it within the forum. Water gets underneath the clearcoat from a chip or scratch and bubbles up as yours has. Unfortunately it's will only get worse, a respray is the only cure.

Very common problem, loads of threads on this same issue.

I paid £80 to have mine resprayed. Skoda weren't interested.

Ok thanks for the replies. Can it be resprayed without taking the spoiler off?

Spoiler is only held on by 4 easy to access screws. Mine is worse than yours and all over the whole spoiler. Its cracked in places too .

As abovd, skoda werent interested

I had a Race Blue vRS TDi before my current car and had exactly the same problem.  I went to my local dealer who said that he had seen the problem before with other vRSs and advised me to get in contact with Skoda customer relations, which I did.

I e-mailed them and attached photos of the spoiler and a couple of extras to indicate the overall condition of the car.  They dragged their heels a bit whilst reviewing the claim, but looking at flaking paint was p*****g me off, so I had the spoiler resprayed myself at a cost of £150.  Skoda eventually contacted me and agreed to cover the cost of my next service, including oils and filters (but not brake pads etc) as a gesture of goodwill.

The car was about four and a half years old at the time and had covered about 50,000 miles and had a full, documented Skoda service history.

When was this?

I rang skoda and got a straight no saying its wear and tear or some rubbish.

Might give this method a go though

It only comes with a 3year paint work warranty so unless you're claiming under sales of goods act I don't see how you're covered

It's a common misconception that you get 10 or 12 years but this is the anti perforation warranty.

this is exactly what I was told.

Maybe a few were lucky to get sympathy

It was last year, probably April /May 2012, so thinking about it the car was just over 4 years old (registered 28th March 2008).  I just contacted Customer Relations, told them what had happened, expressed my surprise and disappointment at the failure of the paint, then submitted photos with a covering e-mail and waited for a reply.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at their response, especially as the car was out of the paintwork warranty, but was more than happy to accept their offer of a free service.
