vrs 2.0. pd tdi timing

Featured Replies

Hello,

I also have a TDI 170 PD. All the torsion values listed in this post were measured with the engine hot?

I ask this because i have 1º difference variation : when engine is cold my torsion value is 2.5º and 1.5º when hot.

Is this a normal variation? I believe that some of my cold issues (bad cold start, shaky idle) come from this but i'm not sure...

Although I can't remember exactly, I think my torsion value is pretty much the same regardless of a hot or cold engine.

When was the cam belt last changed on your car?

  • 2 weeks later...

My belt was changed at 120.000km, car now has 165.000km.

Here are my figures from vcds 12.12

Group 004: Unit Injector
  795 /min  Engine Speed (G28)
  5.0 °ATDC  Injection Start (specified)
  3.7°KW  Injection Duration (specified)
  1.49°  Torsion Value

The torsion value i think it's within the limits but "injection duration / idle stabilization" is not - i believe this value is the exhaust cam angle?

My symptoms:
- First bad cold start;
- Shaky/lumpy idle, worst when cold but also slightly when hot;
- Strong bad smell from exhaust (cold and hot)
- Engine Misfires (cold and hot)

Can someone shed some light on this?
Thanks!!

Hello again,

Just got my timming fine tuned and is now 0,0 engine hot... all symptoms solved except the first cold start of the day takes 3 to 4 seconds with engine struggling... does anyone have a clue? maybe i need to tweak timming?

Thanks!!

Are your glow plugs all working?
