They compliment the 12mm front spacers quite well and do not rub even on my lowered stance. Will post some on car later

Had a spare cam cover so decided to paint it in a Black wrinkle effect

Quite some prep work prior to spraying

The cam cover had come off a car that had done 180,000 miles and died due to a red oil light. No surprise there after seeing the amount of caked black residue on the inside over cover(should of taken pics)

Hear is the cleaning stuff i used

After scraping the really thick crud off carefully with a flat screw driver i liberally sprayed oven cleaner(Mr Muscle foam, only £2 in Asda)  over the whole cam cover and into the breather tube. i left it for around 30 min and repeated again after a cold water rinse.

Pic below is after the second attempt and after 30 minutes when foam had died down.

Then I used some soapy brillo pads to clean and also key surface for painting as did a similar job to wire wool.

Then I finished off using using astonish Engine De greaser(brought from pound land and really good) to soak away any crud left behind.

The result in amazing. Absolutely clean cover. (will post pics when I remove the masking tape from spraying)

Then after dry I used these spray paints

TBH don't think i needed the primer as the adhesion from the wrinkle paint is great

Cam cover primed up

I let that dry for a day

Then I sprayed with the wrinkle paint. To get the wrinkle effect you have to spray at various angles (states on the tin) to build up wet layers. Then depending on how warm it is the wrinkle will start to come out in 5 to 10 mins. It will a lot longer in the cool air. I have heard some folks place the parts in a oven. If I wanted my n**** cut off i would of done that also  )

Instead I opted for carefully placing on top of engine when i came back from shopping.

Did the job a treat.

Today I had to touch up a few areas as not uniform wrinkle effect so now pleased.

Finished result

It will feel strange fitting it after  having my polished cover for a few years. Will again post before and after to see what you folks think.

cheers

Just enough, so far so good, car feels a bit more rigid around bends and i can feel the extra width even if it is only 16mm (that don't sound politically correct  )

Yeah me too :D

most of my spending is your fault dude......lol. And yes you were right about those 42 Draft design gear shift bushings..

i need you to tell me your LSD is poor and makes car handle poo and the extra grunt from your Hybrid makes car feel worse or else the mrs is packing bags......

HAHAHA.

Excellent.

Sell me your now spare rocker cover :P

I want to powder coat my rocker cover and inlet manifold to appease the tweaking demons before I'm accidentally forced to make it go faster...

I'm all over this!!!!! Do you mind me copying? After being parked next to mark at Combe it gave me a massive boot up my arse. Must do better!

Hows the wheels sit now bud :)

Funky paint on the rocker

Inlet going the same ?

It's cheap and easy to make a 1.8T look good!

I probably spent about £150 on powder coating and polishing in my bay!

It was all apart already though...that's where the pain in the arse comes in! Lol!

Get all the deletes done and then see what's left!

lol...Think that spare might have other plans. Maybe a funky splattering of paint  somewhere down the line...

Not at all dude, we all copy something. Thanks for the comments. Great to meet folks at combe, mind you  my car still looks drab compared to some others...

Make sure you get the right one dude if not getting a VRS one, as some VW's don't have the breather pipe tube on them(blanked off)

Seen some that look smoother with a breather round the oil cap, think it's off a NASP that I've seen some people use. Just setting up my powder coating plant so need some things to be guinea pig :)

I assume it can be any 1.8T one then?

Hmm that's interesting to know.

Well as I am in Portsmouth be a shame not to be a guinea pig for something

Just trying to find somewhere to operate from; have all the equipment to hand to blast and coat but I live on the second floor of a block of flats; I reckon if I sparked up the compressor it'd either melt the wiring or go through the floor
