Weather!

Featured Replies

Just got back from a week in Cornwall. Drove down from Nottingham to ST Mawes in the most appalling weather, driving rain and howling head winds, lights, wipers and A/C full on all the way. Fuel consumption suffered to the extent I averaged 32.8 MPG for the journey (fill to fill), worst I have ever experienced as over 12,000 miles my average is 41.2 MPG. Pottering around Cornwall average returned to near normal (39.5 MPG) and on return journey - quiet weather, light tail winds  - achieved 40.4 MPG.

I guess the combination of high head winds and brick like tall Yeti resulted in the increased consumption against head winds. Otherwise my 1.2 Tsi DSG performed faultlessly cruising at 70+ MPH on motorways etc. and the high seating position was great seeing over Cornish hedges - fun on the windy lanes as well.

I wondered if anyone with a diesel Yeti has any experience of similar results in similar conditions?

My 110 4x4 mpg drops off in high wind conditions going by the computer, although the lowest fill to fill I've achieved was driving through Europe on the auto route with four PoB, boot full plus a soft box on the roof; 35mpg

Trips from Manchester to Liverpool (almost flat) on consecutive days produced a difference of 4mpg in maxidot figures because of a steady head wind on second day.

42mpg in those bad conditions, 47mpg out of them.

Based on Maxi-Dot usually 3mpg higher.  So indicated was 45/50.

My best brim to brim figure was 43.7, which included quite a bit of motorway miles at 60. I've had five more fill-ups achieving 43mpg or more since getting the 170 last June (with a 43.2 last night, maxidot read 48.1).

The worst was coming back from Northern Ireland in the summer, 4 up, fully loaded with a roofbox and sitting at the legal limit (where possible) all the way home with quite a headwind after leaving Scotland. That resulted in 35.9.

Average over 16,000 miles is just over 41. If I don't do much in the way of motorway mileage before filling up again I'm lucky to get 40mpg, though 38 was the lowest until the NI trip.

I've never been able to reach those dizzy heights with my Grand Vitara 3dr. Best I've seen on motorways is 32mpg and the worst is 21mpg !!! (it was a headwind and I was trying to do around 75mph)

Got Skoddy down to just on 30mpg from Calais to Maastricht; motorway all the way, except round Brussel, but it was 0300 and I :bandit:  know where the speed camera are
