DMF free motoring.....

Featured Replies

Are there any cars available that don't have a DMF?

Diesel, automatic preferably.........for motorway munching with an 8 mile peak-time crawl twice a day.

The last bit of my commute, despite my best efforts, has resulted in the DMF on the (manual) Mondeo beginning to go (on mechanics advise the car is now parked up, hopefully to offload to a dealer as px or low cash sale). The cost of replacement is uneconomical if it's going to go again inside 30k. :@  :punch:

Mind you, running the Discovery as my commuter isn't exactly cheap either (£50 every two days).

And no, there's no single plate/solid option for the Mk4's, that's only a conversion option on the Mk3.  :@

So, suggestions below welcomed.....so far I'm considering a Volvo S80/S60 D5, Audi A6 Avant V6 TDi or Superb V6 TDi - all auto-boxed, and all within my expected budget (pennies) with between 110k (Volvo & Audi) and 144K (Skoda) on the clock.

Anything else an option?  Comfortable, 45mpg+ on a run, auto and no DMF are the criteria... Talk to me........

We have a 2010 Kia Ceed 1.6 diesel that has no DMF out of the factory. Its a manual, though and not as powerful as what you're looking at (115 ponies).

and probably way over my budget.......the mondeo's only booking at between £3000-3800k.  Shame.

Power isn't everything, as once I'm on the motorway, it just sits there.  But the manual gear changing, constantly using the clutch to move about 4 feet, every five minutes, doesn't do even a 'normal' clutch any favours.   Are you sure it's not got a DMF?  Or are you thinking it's not got a DPF?

I thought a lot of the modern diesel had DMFs ...even the VAG DSG boxes have DMFs.......

I'd go for the Volvo d5 hands down. They run forever.

I'm surprised to hear about the DMF in your mondeo, we use fords at work (mondeo sand S-max 2.0 diesels) and despite doing 70k driving around at low speeds have never suffered a problem.

Unless the auxiliary belt tensioner lets go because it wasn't changed with the cambelt....... :bandit:

Well, that's what I thought, but I think the constant stop/start has taken it's toll. For all I know it may have been on it's way out when I bought it.

Yeah, its pricier, looking on Autotrader they start from 6-7k for autos, but they're all pretty low mileage. The pre-FL ( < 2010) are pretty spartan and dull and don't carry the 7 year warranty.

And yes, that 1.6l Hyundai diesel engine does not have a DMF, they only put it on the 2.0l diesels. I don't know about the pre-FL engine though.

Most 1.9TDI PD100 and PD105 equipped VAG cars have a SMF fitted and no DPF (not sure about the PD105)
