Hello; Thanks: Some Observations & Questions !

Featured Replies

Hello everybody.

A soon-to-be Citigo owner here (sound like an expectant fsther !).

I have been following the forum thresds for a while now. Firstly can I say a big thanks to all and in particular the regular contributors. The information I have gained has been huge. I feel very well informed and will collect my car with a much more confident and expectant spring in my step.

My journey started in August when my '02 Seat Leon 1.6 gave up the ghost. Cracking reviews led me to test drive the Citigo and I loved it. The stated 10-12 week wait for a new car just seemed unbearably long, bearing in mind I would have to cadge lifts to work for that length of time (have since discovered via this forum that such a lead in time was fairly typical). So accepted a White SE 60bhp that had already been ordered for the dealers showroom but not yet built. It was essentially being redirected to me. Originally after the Elegance but not fussed about Stop/Start or heated front seats etc. The SE could be delivered in 6 weeks and had already been ordered with the spare wheel. I asked for the PID to be added and some mats are being thrown in. Sorted !

Have subsequently felt that the dealer is more reactive (to my prompting) rather than proactive but overall fairly good. They don't really volunteer much information as such.

Latest is that my car was built this week and has just left the factory. Expected in at the dealers in about 2 weeks. Can't wait !!

OK some general random observations:-

* Over past four weeks or so I have clocked pretty much every smaller car on the road (including on my daily 10 mile motorway commute) searching for the ever elusive Citigo and I have yet to see a single one !! Loads of Aygos; Picantos; Micras and a smattering of 500's and i10's. Now I know some of these models have been out there for years and the Citigo has only been out for 14 months or so, but why are the roads so populated by models alot of whom have been widely considered for so long to be mediocre at best and generally poor value. I expected to see at least one Car of the Year 2012. Oh well, my dealer said last week that they had had 60 ordered so far in September, so methinks the situation is about to change.

* Skoda and the dealer do not seem to make much of a deal about Skoda Assist. Dealer didn't mention it and the official Citigo brochure makes no specific reference to it. I only found out via this forum (another thanks !) I get the feeling the current deal on new Skodas is so good (0% finance; free servicing etc) that it kind of gets forgotten and lost in the mix. Other car brands shout from the rooftops about it if they provide it.

* Looking forward to ..... A new car !! Fun driving experience !! Excellent MPG (relative to a Seat Leon 1.6 with no service for 3 years and 112,000 miles on the clock) ! The PID and (don't laugh!!) a CD player. Did I have the only car on the road that only had a tape player ?? Will be like evolving from the Stone Age to the Space Age in one fell swoop !

Some questions I would grateful to have feedback on:-

* Does Skoda Assist provide Home Assistance - I assume not and that it is just the basics ?

* Anyone know if a Nokia Lumia Windows phone should hook up to the PID without any issues and does the dealer ever offer to do this ?

* How do some forum members seem able to track the exact progress of their orders ? Some even seem to be literally following the progress of the delivery ship from Emden to the UK via the internet. My dealer says only they can do it and keep me advised. I live in Gloucestershire.

You'll be glad to know any future posts from me will be mercifully shorter !! Sorry, enthusiasm got the better of me.

Thanks again. Keep up the good work !

Pete.

I was told that Skoda assist did include home assist but I have to be honest I haven't read the documentation, I believe its also Europe wide.

Id imagine if the phone supports Bluetooth it should hook up to the PID OK, the dealer should set this up for you at handover-if they don't offer ask them its their job!

I don't know about tracking the order but I'm sure there's someone on here who can help.

Oh and enjoy the citigo when you get it!

I recently had need to use Skoda Assist in France, after a weasel chewed through a rubber sensor tube and an associated electrical wire, and the service was excellent.

skoda assist does include home assistance, and full europe cover :)

enjoy your new car

Welcome to the forum :)

Enjoy the car when you finally get it

Thanks. Skoda Assist pretty comprehensive then. A weasel .... now there's an original reason to regale the breakdown man with. Glad it was sorted.

Skoda Assist is the full deal.

I have used twice at home for my Yeti, once was down to a known fault with a sensor in the fuel system, the second time due to a 4wd fault caused by a servicing dealer not doing the job right...

Both occasions the RAC chaps were very friendly and helpful.

Enjoy the SE - 60bhp is plenty!

never had to use it with any of the 7 skoda's we have owned

make sure you get a spare wheel not a can of gunk

welcome and enjoy

Yes got the spare wheel thanks.

Yes indeed. Seems to be the full deal. Thanks for the link.

Bluecar1 has provided all the details above, but I will redundantly add that Skoda Assist is a pretty comprehensive package.

I don't know what model phone you have, but the PID paired up with my Nokia Lumia Windows phone instantly no problems. The pairing procedure is very straightforward, and I was up and running in 2 minutes.

I was even sad/excited enough to buy a neoprene phone cover to match the car interior for when it sits in the little multimedia holder that comes with the car.

Didescharlie, fingers crossed then. Sounds like I should OK. Cheers.

remember when you get the car and PID,

you have 30 days to accept any offers for cheap map etc updates (2 years of maps are just over £16 instead of £80, and safety camera updates are £12.50 instead of £25)

also you will have fresh maps and software updates as a 1 off in that time as well , so do that asap then you have a month to make your mind up on the offers

the clock starts ticking the moment it is powered and connected to the citigo

don't forget a micro SD card for music unless you are going stream it over blue tooth

Thanks Bluecar. Plenty to get stuck into when I take delivery. Much appreciate your feedback.

Just to add that Skoda Assistance certainly works Europe-wide when my engine expired in Belgium.

Enjoy the Citigo - they're a cracking car IMHO.  A bit lacking in the boot space, but SOOOO easy to drive and get good mpgs.

Thanks for the input. Can't wait to start driving it. Funny about the boot. I only have other peoples opinions to go on apart from my Test Drive and have read countless reviews (too many I think). Most reviews consider the boot capacity to be up there with the best of them (in relation to City Cars) @ 251 litres with the folding seats creating bags more room. It wipes the floor with the Aygo apparently. Then someone else will say the complete opposite with some reviews actually highlighting the lack of boot space as a key negative point. Alot of moaning about the high lip as well. I reckon it'll be just fine for my needs.

boot might be small(ish) but you can still fit about 6 carrier bags of shopping in it

also there are 2 hooks (1 each side of the boot) which are ideal for hanging the odd carrier bag of shopping on and stopping the contents rolling round the boot

the boot liner is nor bad either, (about £26) its a thin material a bit like the material the white trays meat are packaged in at the supermarket, but seems remarkably resilient and covers the entire boot floor so the painted sections are not exposed

A Weasel??!!

You sure it wasn't a stoat?

Mind you, a weasel is weasily wecognised, but a stoat is stoatally different.

Taxi for Damo :D

Haha! That WAS a classic comment.

Thinking about it, it could weasely have been an anorexic rat...

Sister has an Aygo. Citigo is way better in every respect including the boot.

The Citigo is a tremendous car.

I believe my new Citigo is at the port waiting to board ship for UK.
