Boost problems

Featured Replies

Right I'm gonna call this car karma! Lol I must of done something bad.

Got the misfire problem sorted now I have boost issues. The car runs fine then every so often it holds back boosts about 1.5 bar instead of 2 bar.

Then as from yesterday twice it's stuck at 0.6 bar all the way through the rev range of I let of and put my foot back on the throttle it seems to sort its self. Any ideas.

Karma seems to be keeping everyone's brains busy in this site I tell you!! Haha.

I was thinking maybe n75 valve? I did some research and spoke to a previous owner he said he put an ecs n75 one on there to stop it boost spiking.

And ideas would be appreciated as usual :-)

Thanks guys

Any codes?

I had the same problem few years ago, it was a MAP sensor. Put my foot down, boost jumps to ~0.6bar and holds, I let go the throttle for a second and then it sort it`s self out.

I changed my n75 valve and it sorted my boost surge problem out

New Oem one is fine

Typical iv lent my code reader out bit as soon as I get it back I'll read the codes. As for the map sensor I hope not it has a custom tip I wouldn't know where to start getting a new one

If your trying to run your car at 2 bar then factor in a new engine !!!!!!

If your trying to run your car at 2 bar then factor in a new engine !!!!!!

That's what it was running when I bought it freshly mapped by shark well I lie it was about 1.9bar, I also thought that was pretty high??

!! 2bar boost gonna kill your car simple !!

Insane

Oh great!!!! I don't really understand because I spoke to Dave upton who built it and it's been running that since 2002 so even with all forged internals it's too much? To be fair seeing as my mates 480bhp impreza was running 2bar I was thinking wtf it seems hell of a lot any chance of the defi gauge reading wrong?

2 bar of boost to achieve 300bhp you have some serious issues dude !!!!

  • Author

Someone at Combe said maybe because of the pancake pipe they have run a lot of boost to compensate but I take it unless I get it mapped again I can't turn it down?

It's just crap mate to be fair

You need to spend some money and make the car good it seems its not been done to well but things can be done to improve it

First you need to change cooler setup !!!

Ok thanks

Looking at your vid it looks like your boosting to around 1.7 peak ??

Wich to be fair would be fine

I recal this car was mapped over 2 years ago to 330 and knowing Ben and shark that would have been 100% bang on

Just confused by you saying it should boost 2 bar who told you this ??

I've just looked at your video and 2bar would be the 3 o'clock position on your gauge, it doesn't get that far around. Difficult to tell but it looks to be around 1.7bar. I also remember that it made 330bhp.

Haha, great minds think alike Clive.

Pretty sure it was mapped November 2011 so a lot could have changed since then.

Well I apologise I'm glancing at the gauge when driving it must look closer too 2bar than it is so 1.7is fine? I didn't realise it was mapped so long ago. Also it has defi gauges and the peak is at 2bar unless someone just did it once then turned it back down but me just reading the gauge wrong no one said it should be running that.

Yes iv heard bens maps are one of the best!

So then now that's sorted haha I need to work out this problem of limiting its self too 0.6 every now and again from what Iv been told I'm led to believe either n75 or map sensor?

Could be anything.

Fuelling issues will cut the boost as will boost leaks vac leaks plugs maf and anything else that feels like it to be honest.

  • Author

Obviously I had the misfire I did all the vacuum lines, plugs, coil packs, uprated most of the standard piping which needed doing,

That reminds me bo***cks I was meant to send Clive a picture of fuel pump, well reminded Dave thanks haha

Someone at Combe said maybe because of the pancake pipe they have run a lot of boost to compensate but I take it unless I get it mapped again I can't turn it down?

It was me who told you this!

If your peak is 24psi,the pancake boost run will be robbing you blind....maybe 5-6psi?

This is a guess mind,it may even be more than that once you factor in your fmic setup!

Even the pro alloy,as well made as it is,isn't ideal!

My vrs used to limit boost alot( limp mode) when my brake light switch was faulty. Been fine since i replaced it. Im only stage 1 tho

  • Author

Ah funny you should say that I only replaced that last week maybe it's faulty :-(

Make sure its fitted correctly theres a few bad guides floating around on how to do it

  • Author

Ah maybe then I just extended it and put it in haha I'll have a look see if iv done anything wrong
