Has anyone tried comparing the mpg of a 1.9 diesel in automatic mode compared to tiptronic mode? I had a manual previously which returned 51 mpg regularly. My current DSG does 46 mpg which is about what I would expect but if I used the semi auto/ manual mode would it improve?

I have experimented with this on my 2.0TDI DSG. 

 

I found that in manual mode, you can change up 100 rpm or so earlier than the gearbox does in auto mode. You can also stay in a higher gear slightly longer than auto mode too. The combined affect of this is a slight increase in MPG, but not much......maybe 5% at best.
