Clio help?

Featured Replies

My gf has a K reg Clio and I'm a bit confused. If the pedal bites right at the top of the pedal travel then the clutch is almost dead isn't it?

Also, if it is the clutch, how much roughly could she be looking at for a replacement. Its a 1.4 K reg. The bit that concerns me is that the Haynes suggests that the engine has to be removed in order to do it. Any ideas?

Clutch just might need adjusting.

:agree: If it's not been done before at any point it will undoubtedly adjust and give the same life again.

That said, the garage may have adjusted it previously, and (sorry - awaiting backlash) women do tend to be harder on clutches (whereas men tend to do brakes instead), so I'd be very surprised to find it's not been done if she's had the car for a long period of time.

How long has she had it and what's the mileage?

Cost wise, a main dealer will prob charge over

She's had it about 18 months now and its got 82k on the clock.

I hope it does need adjusting and not a new clutch, she'll be looking to sell it soon and it won't pass another MOT, but I found it almost impossible to move away with the clutch.

IIRC from my old Clio days it has an automatic adjuster. Indeed the engine does have to be dropped out as French manufacturers always seem to make the engine bay as tight as possible. Saying that places like Mr Clutch etc should be able to do a good deal on it.

Auto adjusting clutches only go so far, there could still be hope - esp if you tell the garage the score.

After 18months of a woman behind the wheel though - sliiiiiiiip - new clutch :thumbdwn:

And its her first car to add to it. I'll get Mr Clutch or a local to have a lookski when she's next over here, not much choice, competition wise between garages where she lives so prices are higher.
