Single flash glow plug light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm driving a 2008 diesel (CR) VRS, just passed 100k miles. Yesterday the glow plug light started coming on - it flashes once (very briefly) at random intervals. Stopping and re-starting the engine didn't clear it. I couldn't find a pattern to it lighting up (it didn't seem to matter if the engine was under load or coasting etc). There's no difference in the way the engine performs - no limp mode or loss of performance. I took it my local indy - on the way there the engine management light lit up (constantly). I didn't get the fault codes (he cleared out the codes before I could ask), but as I was looking over his shoulder I did see mention of the throttle control valve.

I spent this morning looking for leaks in the engine bay pipe work and re-seating the plugs for the million sensors in the engine bay - the EML has gone out, but the glow plug light still flashes once every now and then.

My gut feeling (which is probably wrong!) is that there may be a sensor that's starting to go out of tolerance or something like that, but I've no idea where to go from here. Could it be the TCV? Or the EGR? Or do I replace the brake switch?

Any ideas?

You're best bet would be to get the codes read again and post them up here, that way you can be given clear direction what to look for etc. Otherwise you may spend a lot of time and possibly money on a wild goose chase.

DPF sensor. read my thread above the page but the best way VCDS at first
