Samsung Galaxy S3 help needed! Need to get data off

Featured Replies

My phone is about a year old now, and is running stock everything. It was working fine until last night where I heard my phone restart (I heard the samsung boot up noise) but when I looked at it, it was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 boot screen. Turned off the phone by the button and it just restarts to the same point. Took the battery out and left it for a few minutes, turned it back on and now all I get is this;

I'm not too bothered about the phone, but any idea how I can get data off?

i know stating the obvious but do you have a micro sd card in the expansion slot, there will be some on that I would think. Sorry bit of a dumb dumb suggestion, but i dont know your techie level yet  :hi:

No problem, I am fairly good with tech and IT and have tried getting into all menus on the phone, can get into power, home and volume down button where you can flash firmware but not the volume up menu where you can wipe cache etc.

There is no micro sd card. My pictures have been backed up, it's more texts and notes I am after.

Not sure you'll be able to back up texts or other app data if you can't get into recovery.

Keep trying to get into recovery and if you can manage it, you may find that wiping cache and dalvik cache may sort it.

IIRC on the Samsung branded phones there's no fastboot, the bootloader only supports Odin download mode. Depending on how desperate you are, you could potentially get the Odin flash files for the same OS build that's already on the phone and reflash without formatting /data, but it's a long shot.

I'd keep trying to get into recovery.

Thank you, am in the process of downloading the files from sammobile already - was just hoping there is another way :)

The S3 does have a microSD slot, but you need the device to boot to be in with any chance of recovering anything.

You need to get a backup app like MyBackup Pro and save the backups off device, or onto an SD card if your device has one.  Once the device becomes bricked, chances are any data is toast.

If what you are seeing is a result of a failed memory chip , then the chances are pretty high that the phone stored data has already gone.

Try removing the microsd card and see if the phone boots then.

I also wouldn't be reloading the os as that's almost certain to wipe stuff permanently

You can flash without formatting /data. It is a long shot, but always worth a try as it'll wipe /cache.

Don't forget the phone is still under warranty for another year

Thank you for all the comments guys, phone isn't recognised through USB no matter what I do so unfortunately it seems it's died completely. Going back to Samsung to have it repaired or replaced.

I didn't have an SD card in the phone so it isn't that. Seems a common issue for the phone motherboard to fail so likely that's the issue.

Get ready for the inevitable moisture damage rejection then.

Samsung fixed the phone and got it back yesterday. Unfortunately no data but at least I have a working phone again :)

Have you loaded a backup app yet?

First thing I did :)
