dreaded dpf light........

Featured Replies

hey all,

We had the dpf light come on on our 56 plate vrs derv the other week. Nothing odd as with it being used for short trips it does it time to time.

1 week later it came on again, took it for a drive and it went out. 4 days later its back on again.

Im thinking it might be time to get it removed as it sounds like its getting really clogged.

Any views on this?

Maybe a faulty sensor? Would someone with a vcrds be able to tell?

what would i see on vcds if the sensor is iffy?

I can't remember the exact error but I think in my case it referred to the G450 sensor (exhaust pressure sensor) being intermittent or similar, from what I've read it's a common sensor to fail but the error codes and dashboard lights shown can vary.  In my case I saw the engine management light first, scanned with VCDS but didn't see anything and it disappeared after five engine starts.  A week later the EML came back and stayed on, this time I got the G450 error and had the DPF sensor replaced.  I never had the DPF light on but I've seen accounts from others that they did see have the DPF light on when the sensor failed.

When you took it for a drive, how long was this drive? Take it on a massive run and clear all that soot out.

on friday when i came on it was driven for about 20 miles total. Over the weekend I did one journey of around 60 miles mainly on the motorway and this week its done a few short trips until yesterday when it came on again.

To make it go off I took i for a rag up and down a dual carriageway totaling about 10 miles

I've noticed and could be a coincidence that my DPF lights come on more when the old girl wants a oil change. After changing the oil it won't come on very often as prior to the oil change.

I do alot of miles in mine and it hates short journeys about once a month with a lumpy tick over but soon sorted after some 10minutes at 60 in 5th.

I did have a dodgy sensor about 18months ago and it made my car go into limp mode with DPF and Engine light on.

when my car went into limp mode a few weeks back no other lights were on but that is down to a boost issue (low boost according to vcds and the extreme lack of power agrees with it)

It does need an oil change, I like to do mine once every 10k and its nearly at 80k but i'm not sure that would do it :S
