Front assistant

Featured Replies

Has anyone noticed that Front assistant is now an optional extra on the Elegance rather than standard spec like it used to be?

Skoda seem to be just messing around with options so much.

I sincerely hope that it will be built on my car or there will be hell to play.

It is listed on the website as an option, but it is showing as standard in the configurator. Unless SUK confirm otherwise, assume it's a typo.

Picked up my car on Monday, dealer gleefully pointing out the radar pad at the front for the front assist saying " you're lucky - they've stopped fitting them now because of over demand within the VAG group causing supply problems from their source".

How do you TEST the system is working without risking a bashed in front bumper ?!

Drive at around 45mph and get gradually closer to the car in front if it's travelling at the same speed.

Eventually you trigger the first stage "you're driving too close" warning which is a visual logo on the mfd replacing the odometer in the bottom left corner. There's no audio warning.

Caught me by complete surprise driving home in heavy traffic last week when this logo suddenly appeared on the display! Had to look it up!

My first experience with front assist was on the M4.

I was doing 70mph in the middle lane whilst overtaking a lorry, a car moved from the outside lane to about 1.5 car lengths in front of me. The car had a complete fit and slammed the breaks on hard, ABS kicked in and I was lucky no one was behind me as no one would have out braked me in time.

I cut the test drive short and when I returned to the dealer asked if he had another without it, his response was 'yeah it's a bloody nightmare!'

This is what is starting to concern me about the fact mine is coming with it.

Is it possible to set the cars "interrupt" limit later, so that it's more akin to what we experience in everyday motoring?

If not, I may not use it and it will be an expensive wasted extra.

Actually very worrying, I think my Mrs would have a fit if that happened while she was driving.

It's very easy to turn it off, there is a shortcut on the MFD in the 'driver aids' menu selected from the steering wheel.

Will I still be able to use cruise control if I turned off the variable aspect of it?

Same result of a waste of money on the VCC option though :-(

you cant turn off the variable part of acc unfortunaltey although this thread is on about front assist which is a different thing.

ive done 500 miles in mine and not had any problems yet. the closest ive seen of front assist was the little icon in maxidot saying I was too close to someone who pulled out on me on the motorway and they were very quite close.

The front assist comes as part of the ACC package so, I had assumed they work together.

sorry yes they do but they dont at the same time as you can spec front assist on its own without ACC so the options on the head unit are separate for the two

You could keep ACC enabled but turn off FA if you didnt like it intervening.

the only thing ive turned off so far is lane assist and ive found the ACC really handy as it works like the standard cruise except you dont have to turn it off when you approach another car as it just takes over automagically :)

Phew, that sounds better :-)

Shame I've wasted £300 on the front assist part of the ACC package if it's so temperamental though.

yeah the problem is you cant have ACC without the front assist as they both use the radar and theres no way to configure just ACC in skodas options :(

The FA hasnt given me any concern in 500 miles yet and Im happy its there if someone pulls out on me in a city centre :)

I have front assist but not ACC. Done about 400 miles & experience so far - vehicles pass & pull in quite close in front & in maxidot 2 car symbol with an exclamation mark appears in bottom left corner of screen.

A van in front decided to turn left late which meant the distance to me was shorter than normal & the maxidot showed Red chevrons with an audible warning.

A normal safe driver should be able to react to both without the warnings, but maybe a crash for cash driver who brakes hard in front of you triggering automatic braking might be a bonus.

It came with the spec so I'm OK with that, but doubt I would have bought it as an option.
