tyres codes confusion

Featured Replies

hi,

I'm owner of Skoda Octavia II, diesel 2.0l, 2012, it is equipped by default with 195/65/R15 summer tyres and I want to prepare it for winter tyres.

Within its certificate of conformity I have the following options:

195/65 R15 91V#6, 5Jx15 ET50

205/55 R16 91V#6, 5Jx16 ET50

205/55 R16 91V#6Jx16 ET50

205/60 R15 91V#6, 5Jx15 ET50

225/45 R17 91W#7Jx17 ET54

205/50 R17 93H M+S#6Jx17 ET45

No 5.: max 4666

No 7.: max 1485

So, the confusion is related to M+S indication as following:

a) I can fit only winter tyres (M+S) on 205/50 R17 93H so summer tyres won't fit or are not recommended on that size?

B) why M+S code is assigned only to that type of wheel size?

c) can I fit winter tyres for all sizes from above?

Thank you,

Dan

Why do you want narrow 15" summers and wide 17" winters?

Just stick a set of winter tyres on exactly the same size as you are running as a summer tyre....simples

Just go to someone like "my tyres.co.UK" and search your 195/65/15 in a "winter" tyre.

Wider tyres in the snow is not the best of ideas. I drop from 225/40/18 to 205/55/16 during winter. Tyres are cheaper in that size too.

Looking at your list, it is saying on that tyre/wheel size combination you can ONLY fit an M+S tyre.

You cannot fit a summer tyre in that size.

As I mentioned above just stick a winter tyre on your existing rim the same as you have.

You will find plenty with your current load rating of "91" but being a dedicated winter tyre the speed rating will be lower than your current "V" as they do not make winter tyres for high speed. Most are "T" rated which is plenty.

You do not want to go wider tyres on winter a nice narrow tyre is perfect :)
