VW Special Tool for rear Bearing genuine XZN T10162

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Does anyone know where I can buy a genuine VW XZN T10162 18mm spline tool to correctly torque up the rear wheel bearing.
The Sealey one I got snapped !

Cheers
Eric

IIRC, this tool has been superceded by T10162A which is an impact version. You can order it from a dealer or your local Snapon guy will have one.

How did you manage to bust an 18mm triple square? Which Sealey tool were you using?

It was a sealey 18mm XZN Spline socket . I have emailed them with photos and asked them to confirm the torque settings that it should be rated at.
As yet I am still waiting for a response.

I was using a standard long torque wrench that was 1 metre long, no need for a extra bar.
It went to 180NM easily , then 180 degrees was needed ( as per the write up on here )

I marked the bolt at 3oclock with a pencil and proceeded to tighten to wards 9 oclock ( therefore 180 degrees )
It got to only 5 oclock and snapped instantly and without warning resulting in me hitting the deck HARD as you can imagine.

Im annoyed to say the least.

Did you use a new bolt?

How did you ensure the Spline remained fully seated in the bolt? Axle stand? Helper?

Post a pic of the broken tool.

yes, brand new bolt .
My mate firmly held the socket into the new bolt whilst i pressed straight down on the torque wrench, not bouncing it - as I have heard on here.

Got to 5 oclock and snap - a clean break.

will put some pics on here when i get home.

You did everything right. My guess is the socket is faulty. If it is a 'black' impact socket, it should stand way more torque than you could apply.

It's quite a shock when you're leaning on a long bar and something snaps isn't it :)

It was a black impact socket.
And the shock of my knee whacking the floor with 17 stone behind it did smart a bit.
