independents or main dealer

Featured Replies

Apologies if this been asked before sure it has I have been looking at maybe taking my Roomster 1.6 diesel for its second service ( fixed servicing ) I have been quoted big differences from Skoda dealers from £ 265.60 inc vat to £185.00 inc vat both from Skoda main dealers. Independents £130.00 inc vat, using all Skoda parts thus not to invalidate manufactures warranty. Plus one independent stated that the car should not be fixed due to type of driving I do 1000 miles per month on A road's and motorway's and should be reprogrammed to at least get 15,000 miles between servicing with long life oil this puzzles me!. I don't know a lot about mechanics and would appreciate other members thoughts and experiences so I can make choice who to use clearly we all want to pay less for same service. thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

If it was mine, I would go to the cheaper main dealer particularly if there is any minor warranty work they could do at the same time. Also you know they will use the correct oil and reset the service to variable. You would also have a better case for goodwill from Skoda UK later in your ownership if you have any problems out of warranty. Additionally you might get a courtesy car from the dealer if you need it.

Only you can decide if this is worth £55 to you.

I would take it to Central VW Audi in Ellesmere Port, they will do all necessary work and your warranty will be in tact too.  Highly Recommended.

The Skoda dealer stated that the Roomster should always be fixed servicing and not ' reset the service to variable' this may be of interest so hence my reason for posting bye for now

My new Roomster was supplied ex factory with the service set to variable according to the code in the front of the service book. The dealer has reset this to fixed on PDI, I am happy for now because I have 3 free services with the finance which have to be carried out on the fixed regime. When these have been completed I will make my own mind up whether to go fixed or variable dependent upon my then annual mileage and driving mix.

Of course your dealer would rather receive your money more frequently, but it is up to you to decide.

There are discussions on this subject elsewhere on Briskoda that should help you reach a decision.

That's fine but you drive a petrol I see on your profile I drive a diesel its my understanding that the diesels need more frequent servicing so I will go with that  I will check out discussions out of interest
