Front roll bar removal .

Featured Replies

Stick with me on this..... I'm planning on lowering the Fabia, it's going to be very low and my roll bar bushes have started knocking well... Banging..

When running low I've heard the roll bar can hit the drive shaft so my thoughts are to just to remove it completely .

Has anyone done this before ? I'm not going for handling just looks.

Mines removed, but thats coz mines on air. . Just going low you can run mondeo drop links. .easier than having to drop the subframe to get the arb off.

you may have trouble passing an mot with the anti roll bar removed.

Good luck when you tell your insurance company.

nope it was the bloke who does my mot who removed mine,if theres nothing there it cant fail,if theres arb with no drop links it will fail tho. . .I asked him it all before he removed it for me.

as an ex-mot tester i would have thought that too, now however the goalposts have moved regarding the removal of standard fit items. as an experienced tester he should have known that that vehicle would have an anti-roll bar fitted as standard at the factory which means its been deliberately removed.. bear with me i'll find the exact reference in the mot testers handbook in a sec

24E - missing torsion bar is not a reason for failure.

Pretty sure you can get higher looped front arb.

Mines petty low and doesnt hit though and there are a few alot lower than me who dont seem to have trouble too.

If you run joms and fks just use the mondeo links and all will be fine.

as of jan 2012

Reasons for rejection;
1.
A suspension component or its attachment bracket or linkage:

. missing where one is fitted as standard

lol why would it?. . .does it have an arb on the rear as standard. . .no . . N ive never seen any car with a nervous rear end down a straight bit of road. .

so that'd be a rear anti roll bar then, yes? Is the question in any way whatsoever pertaining to a rear anti roll bar? No.

Would I run a stupidly low car for aesthetics, thereby removing what has been fitted to gain type approval? Err,,,,,,,,No.

Yeah, **** handling, looks sweet as dunnit

actually, as is happens, yes they do have a rear anti roll bar as standard, its mounted internally as an integral part on the rear axle beam

no im saying you dont see the arse end being skittish as standard. . (Which does apparently have an arb as standard, which baffles me as to why people then add another). . .

I dont have to run my car stupidly low,I can run it where ever I want height wise,

and its not affected handling what so ever. . My mates took his off a mk5 golf gti. . His handles no differently either. . .

If its not octy spiders and eibach lowering springs all the anoraks on here start thinking there high n mighty. . Not everyone wants to be a sheep n do the same as you. Hahah.

*awaits more bs to start flying about :-P

Well obviously you have no idea!

The rear end will become too stiff if front bar is removed!

Car will possibly have less understeer through the bends but the rear will become unbelievably unstable on a straight when the road is uneven

Trust me i put a rarb on my leon mk1 and didnt uprate the front (rear end too stiff) and it was lethal on undulating striaght!

Was almost like a tank slapper

As someone said (someone with more than 2 brain cells) of check with your insurance company first, if they say no then it's all A pointless discussion. It's not like you're just slightly tinting the windows or something.

Again thank you for all your help, but is it passion or small man syndrome that creates the aggression on this forum ?

It's so clicky !!!!!

Let all just try to get along ?

Deffo a MOT fail, I know because I passed and advised a mates car a few year back when I was testing that it had been removed and he ended up selling it pretty much straight after and the guy who bought it went to VOSA with it for some reason (not about the anti roll bar). Ended up getting a slap on the wrist luckily as I advised it so therefore had seen it was missing but should of failed it. My own fault I should of checked the manual but thought if it was completely removed was a pass. Don't know about how it drove really but I wouldn't do it personally on my car.
