I thought I would attempt to wrap the Chrome trim on my grille today.

 

I bought 3M Satin Black vinyl wrap off eBay.

 

Tools I used :

 

TX25 screwdriver

Trim removal tool (flat one)

Long screwdriver

 

 

To start off with remove the 3 torx screws from the top of the grille.

You really have to bend the grille forwards to see the plastic lugs at the bottom of the grille inside.

They are part of the bumper and are colour coded to your bumper.

All these have to be pushed downwards to release from the grille.

I used a long screwdriver to push each down whilst pushing the grille inwards with my knee.

After they have all unclipped push the grille inwards and then bend it and pull upwards and out.

I managed to chip the paint on the bumper :( Luckily you can't see it when the grille is on.

I then took the grille indoors to remove the trim.

There are lots of clips on the trim to release from the grille

 

These I warn are fragile if forced too much as I broke a few

 

After much sweating and cursing it eventually came off

 

 

The next part where I wrapped the trim I didn't take any photos.

It was my first ever attempt at this.

It took me a long time to do this and is very fiddly.

A Stanley knife and scissors plus a hair dryer is all I used.

Anyway after it was done I clipped it back onto the grille and it looked like this

 

I'm not quite happy as there is 2 tiny creases in the wrap but hardly visible.

I guess not bad for a first attempt.

 

Anyway it was dark later so I used a LED light whilst fitting back into the car.

On fitment you need to bend the grille in one end and then the other whilst locating it in the lugs.

To secure these you need to pull the grille forwards at the bottom to click onto the bottom lugs.

I put my hand inside at the bottom of the grille and pushed the bumper onto them until each one clicked.

The bumper is very flexible so it can be done like this.

It was easier for me to do it this way. Push the grille onto the 3 screw holes and refit the 3 torx screws.

It then looked like this

 

And finished with bonnet closed

 

It looks quite good I think compared to the Chrome look.

I'm pleased with it.

I'll take better pictures of it in the day light.

 

Points to remember.

You have to be quite firm with the grille to remove it but it's very bendy anyway.

The bumper does flex about whilst you remove the grille.

The Chrome trim is plastic and the lugs on it are very fragile when you remove it from the grille.

There are plenty of them so breaking a few is not a big deal.

The good news is that refitting the grille is so much easier than removing it.

Think the chrome looks better than black, as that what comes on the base models

 

Maybe a light grey wrap to match the stickers might be better than the chrome tho

I think I maybe revert back to chrome surround. I'll see if it grows on me but not looking good.

New grille on order today as stand by. £66 odd plus vat :(

Pick it up Wednesday hopefully. Doesn't come complete either. The black main grille is £21 and the Chrome surround is £45 :( a lot of money for Chrome covered plastic !

Or is it just to replace the broken clips?

Tbh if I were to part those 2 again I think all the clips would snap off. They're so fragile. It's a lesson learnt here :(

Picked up another grille from the dealer today. This comes in 2 parts as you can't buy it complete.

Black grille - part no 1ST853653A9B9 - £17.99 plus vat

Chrome grille insert - part no 1ST8537672ZZ -

£39.91 plus vat

That's expensive just for Chrome covered plastic :(

Anyway assembled it and replaced original.

I just couldn't get on with the Black finish knowing that the base model Citigo has this.

If anyone wants my other wrapped grille to play around with just let me know. I'll do a deal

Yes agree, good on you for having a go. I was certain I wanted to change mine, until I saw it! It's amazing how a few off us all thought the same.

Yes I thought great I got to do it. It will look good but sadly I preferred the original. I love a little modding especially when I had the Octavia. I've learnt by this one. I'll leave the grille alone now.

Yes, I suppose I can see were your coming from. Just to many dodgy Saxo's still on the road that look like they have ram raided Halfords, please don't go down that road. The Citigo Sport looks great as it is. Just a shame Skoda have not fitted a 1.2 tsi engine!
