Positive Octy Stories Please

Featured Replies

Just seems the more you read this forum it is being taken up with negativity and problems left right and centre, so thought it would be nice to hear from people who are enjoying their new Octy and are lucky enough to be problem free.

I have only had my 2.0 Elegance a few days and thankfully (touches head) have not got any of the problems plaguing some people on  here. Its a joy to drive, comfortable, spacious, and a boot we could move into if we sold the house. Lots of toys, all working as they should be, no squeaks, no rattles, no weird driving occurences, just a pleasurable enjoyable driving experience.

Anyone else out there actually enjoying their Octy ownership ??

Human nature.

You get problems, you bellyache about it - it makes you feel better.

"I got into my Octy this morning and had a great drive to work" isn't exactly a headline-grabber.

Loving my Octy, just need to get the glass scratches sorted.

Would be nice to get a firmware update so the Stop Start tells you the real reason it isn't working too lol.

All in all it is a superb car that can outrun and outpace most things on the road ;-)

Love mine too! Only had it 2 days but feel it was totally worth the wait! It's certainly not all negative!

Yeah I know these forums are very useful for hearing about potential problems, but sometimes its almost enough to put you off buying one, and yes problems are a pain in the arse but they usually effect a small number of cars, whilst the majority who enjoy their driving don't really come on and say so.

Nice to hear of good Octy experiences as well as problems.

Keep it up folks.

2 weeks 500 fantastic miles later at 60mpg with loads of power and space. Has to be the best value package on the market - what else compares on all those levels?

Yes, me! I took delivery of my first Skoda in June! some four months and 5,500 miles ago. Any concerns that maybe I should have bought a Golf Mk.7 which all the reviews have said is the best out there have been totally ill founded. Like you I chose the Elegance version with the 2.0 diesel and six speed manual box. I was worried that such a big car compared with the little Toyota Yaris 1.4 D I had previously as my commuting car would incur a serious penalty in fuel consumption were also wrong. I am amazed with the fuel consumption of this car, apart from the first couple of fill ups it has never done less than 60 mpg , and on one occasion exceeded 63 mpg. The car is supremely comfortable, despite the inferior (to the multi-link) torsion beam suspension, ride and handling fine for what makes no pretense at being a sporty car and driving position is spot on. The car's performance is more than adequate, the meaty torque of the engine makes overtaking pretty effortless. Nothing has rattles, broken or fallen off. I don 't regret the spec I chose, yes, Canton sound systems and Columbus Sat Nav would have been nice to haves, but as this is mainly a commuting to work car and not one I take touring I haven't really regretted not having either. I'm also pleased to have chosen manual transmission, reading here there does appear to be a heavy fuel penalty with the auto 'box. Criticisms? Two really, firstly the visibility out of the back isn't great, rear park assist is an essential, possibly why it is standard on the entire range. Secondly the bonnet is very heavy and should be supported by twin hydraulic struts to ease the effort in lifting it rather than a cheap bit of bent wire as a prop. That's about all really!

Yes there are lots of problems, I've ordered my 5th Octavia in August so I've seen a few launch model problems in my time. But nothing, I repeat nothing on the scale of the MK3. I think it goes with the territory now the Octavia is stuffed with technology, could this be the reason it's always enjoyed good ratings in JD Power and the like? A comparatively simple car, less likely to go wrong etc.

Anyway, I was getting negative there. I am positive the car will be worth the wait, if I didn't, I'd bail out now.

Had mine about 9 hours now and absolutley loving it.

The sound generator in sport mode reminds me of my Imprezza which to date is probably the best car i ever owned. ACC and lane assist are going to take some getting used to but so far have worked spot on. The room is superb and will now keep my teenage son quiet and his knees out of my back, although he has been warned that if he does it again he can ride in the boot. Love the rear parking sensors (not had these before) and have added some radio logos to the dab radio.

Seats are comfy and I think it looks the like the dogs dangly bits.

7500 miles on the clock and still look forward to driving it every day, love the colour, the toys, the economy, the power, the fact I can clean inside the rims of the 18" alloys so they still look like it's just left the showroom, the space, the fact it's still quite exclusive cos Skoda can't sort out their delivery problems, the look of amazement on faces of badge snobs when they get in the passenger seat and can't believe it's a Skoda ......just don't mention the temperamental Amundsen, the doors holding water, the rattles and the unsettled suspension set up, but on the whole, for £21k, not a bad car, would probably need to spend £35k to get equivalent spec in a brand new proper prestige brand motor, sorry couldn't resist a little dig, but I would still buy it again, even with the niggles, as the competition at this price point is no better!

Well said fellow octygenarians, nice to see little rays of sunshine in amongst the clouds of problems.

Had an elegance loaned to me for the last week or so - very much enjoyed driving it and clocked up over 1000 miles :) great car. Cant wait for my vrs to arrive!

its definitely worth the wait dave :)

500 miles in and im still loving mine. My first DSG and im not disappointed!

I spent most of this afternoon detailing it, stripped it back to the clearcote with clay then iron-x, tardis, machine polished and applied some gtechniq c2v3 for the winter.

here it is with its 3m tape on.  Was too dark to take pics when I finished!

I love my vrs III. 3000 Km so far, no problem at all.

750 miles in, brings a smile to my face every time I see her. Engine seems looser now, is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde motor, can be driven slow and sensibly or the complete opposite. Very capable car, comfortable, spacious and well equipped.

Love the space, the toys, the looks.

Performance is woeful compared to my previous 8 year old Mondeo ST (Nearasdamit same HP but 70lb/ft down makes a huge difference).  Economy about 20mpg down on official (aka laughable) goverment figures.

Look forward to driving it every day no matter how long or short the journey, would recommend it to anyone.  Just don't go for a diesel DSG unless your left leg has fallen off (and if it has due to military service then respect to you - in that case get a DSG), anyone else the manual is better.

Good that you've upped the security at your gaff.

lol! ;)  The German Shepherds  are out of shot

This is only my 2nd Octy & now 2 weeks old can honestly say far superior to the Octy 2. Touching wood everything is working as it should & after a clean & polish no problems with bodywork. The DSG seems to hold 6th gear longer than my previous car, but already getting over 50mpg compared to previous around 45. The wait was a pain but in the end well worth it.

When I leave it in car parks it still seems to attract Chelsea tractors or white van man who want to park as close as they can & I can't wait to get back to it to make sure all is OK.

Would love to post some pictures but haven't a clue how to do that.

5,000 miles in and trouble-free motoring.

Main pluses:

Smooth to drive, plenty of space front and back, comfortable seats, sound system with DAB good quality (non-Canton), solid build quality, 1.6 TDI enough power and overtaking speed and DSG makes for easy progress.

Only 2 weeks of ownership but already think it's the absolute bees knees ! Every day I find something new , so impressed with the solid build quality, materials used and how it drives.

Despite the doom mongers condemning the 1.6 Tdi with the DSG, I have found it a brilliant combination, & this from someone who has owned 7 series, 5&3 series BMW's ( all autos) - this Octy 3 is magnificent in my opinion, and well worth the wait, and this Elegance trim has got more toys than Toys R Us !!
