New Keys on FL and other newer models

Featured Replies

Just thought I would share my findings

I have managed to add an extra key to my 2012 Vrs

Used newer type keys are cheap as they are one unit and can't be re used

I bought a used one of ebay for about £8

Adapting the remote is easy but the immo chip can't be re used.

I bought one from this seller

I manage to code this up using my Vag-Commander

So proceeded to open the newer key up to insert the chip

Don't break the end off!! like in the video clip as it has the LED for the remote

I desoldered the rectangular shaped chip to make more room for the glass chip

refit the key back and check the flip part works before you click it back.

I had to use the keyblade from one of my keys so I could test it. I'm now going to find a blade for my new key.

Total cost

£8 for the used key

£6.50 for the transponder

around £10 for the blade

To adapt the remotes

Go to BCM (Central Electrics 09)

Adaptions > Channel 00 test and save (deletes all remotes)

Adaptions > Channel 01 enter number of remotes to be programmed (3 in my case )

save and press the unlock button on each remote

£12 for a genuine HAA key blade cut at a local locksmiths

This is very interesting, presumably if you have an IMMO chip pre coded from an old key, you can just slot that in.

Yes, you could also swop the key blade too

the newer remote would still need to be adapted

I can do that through VCDS anyway?

do you have a full version of VAG Commander? or a £15 copy?

I have the genuine version

you must be in the motor trade then. Nobody spends that kind of money that Abrites costs just to tinker with their own car. I'm in the motor trade & i looked into buying the full dealer key package but decided against it due to the costs
