2.0 TFSi Issues - DMF & N80 Valve (P0441)

Featured Replies

Sorry for the essay but I seem to be having a few issues with my 2006 2.0 TFSi Vrs.

It has developed a strange noise when setting off or balancing on the clutch in traffic that can best be described as a rattling sound coming from the gearbox. I've seen a few threads on here where owners seem to be having the same issue but no diagnosis ever seems to be posted. There doesn't seem to be any vibration when moving but it sounds expensive. Could this be coming from the DMF?

I previously had an Audi 1.8t and when the clutch went I opted for a SMF conversion mostly due to the saving in cost over the DMF + clutch. The conversion felt great. I cannot for the life of me find a conversion kit for this car other than incredibly expensive racing / tuner versions. Do Valeo / LUK or Sachs do anything thats reasonably priced?

I've also noticed that the car seems to be taking longer and longer to turn over when firing it up, could this be DMF related? If so, this could explain the rattle.

I also had the emissions light come on and when scanned I got the P0441 error (Evaporative emissions system incorrect purge flow) which usually relates to the N80 valve. The one on the car looks new and since clearing the error it hasn't reappeared. I also hear that this can cause the car to take longer to turn over. Very confusing.

P.s. the car has just hit 73k if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

Hi jono, with vehicle running in neutral, depress clutch pedal, then release with windows down, between pedal depressed and released you may get a noticeable rattle while pedal is released. This along with your other symptom would tell me release bearing. Also, this being said, if your clutch has suffered as a result, you may have debris on the pickup for the crank sensor, making the magnet inside less effective and requiring a more constant engine revolution prior to starting. If the release bearing is at fault, get the gearbox out, clean up the crank sensor, and replace clutch kit. Depending on flywheel manufacturer sachs or luk, there will be a flywheel freeplay measurement you can do prior to fitting new clutch. Also, you need to know which clutch/flywheel you currently have, as oem sachs an luk components are not interchangeable. Hope this helps, Dale

I would be extremely surprised if this has anything to do with either of your issues bud, Dale

Thanks Dale

If it has say a Sachs kit in there at the moment would I be able to replace it with a full LUK kit or would it need to be another Sachs? I take it that I cant just mix and match them (Sachs clutch & LUK flywheel)?

I'll have to just bite the bullet and get it booked in for the full clutch / flywheel replacement. Hopefully it can wait a while. The car seems to drive fine, I'm just wary of the impending BANG.

The TFSi can also throw an Evap error if the tank is over filled at the garage.

Thanks Dale

Your'e welcome dude. You can swap kits yes, so luk flywheel and clutch kit for sachs flywheel and clutch kit, and as you say, no mix and match. Good luck with it, Dale
