Megane Renaultsport 225??

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Not been on here for a while but just thought I'd post to say my 52- plate Octy vRS is heading over the 40K mileage mark and I'm wondering if a change should be in order? Not sure if it is easier to wait for the new Octy vRS but there still seems uncertainty of the launch date, engines and overall cost. Not had a look at one of these Megane's yet but passed one on the motorway on my way home last night and it looked quite nice.

Has anyone driven or owned one or have a (sensible) opinion on this motor? Many thanks in advance, still really enjoying the vRS as I have had it now for nearly 2 and a half years and it has been a great car.

Cheers

Hugh

Probably should have read the 'Laguna problems' thread before I posted! lol

Hi,

I drove one a while back abroad (Netherlands) and to be fair, was fairly impressed. I cannot vouch for build quality (plastics a bit soso), but the car felt well screwed together - it was pretty new (2 months old) so much can change...

I did not feel like an out and out racer though (thinking Type-R), more very fast transport - and hoovered up traffic nicely. Quite nice handling but the engine is top trumps, really liked that. Pulled well all revs and power from low down.

I also like the look of these - sporty, but not OTT. So have a go in one, only way to test a car and see if you like it....Not sure I would spend my money there though.

Well, that's my humble opinion.... :)

It's French and will fall apart...

Had a Clio 172 Mk2 from new, sold it after about 8 months as it gained more rattles than "Babys R Us"

It is a nice looking car but the French are not known for build quality and I fear you maybe taking a step backwards from the Skoda.

The boot is small cause of the funny tailgate as well so don't expect anything like an Octy sized boot.

Thanks for the opinion 'ThePiper' ,I'm not sure what to do but it did catch my eye last night as I mentioned. I quite like the look of a car that has a bit of grunt but is not an out and out racer, quick but discreet I think is what I am trying to get at.

Will try to check one out at first hand and take it from there.

Cheers

We had a diesel Megane in Italy last year and were very impressed with it. Build quality was excellent and it was beautifully quiet. The seats were a little uncomfortable though I suspect the 225 ones are better.

I think the 225's understated looks are great.

In fact, if it weren't for the seats I probably would have bought one over the Octavia.

If you are serius about one Look for the 225 Trophy !

Reckon you will be able to pick these up for pennies soon.Performance Renault seems to be dominated by the clio variants.Reckon 2 years on and you will get the 225 for half price or less.Might be interesting but build quality concerns me (reading other threads)

Megane 'shakin that ***' is still one sexy advert though :D

Goodness gracious me and fiddle my drumsticks! Didn't think that word would alert the swear filter

Apparently there's a Cup version for

was going to test drive... arent they 2,0ltr turbo 225 bhp ??

Joel

Well, my old Megane Coupe was totally reliable. In six years of motoring all i replaced was the battery, coil pack, brake discs and pads, and tyres. Renault build quality isn't what it used to be, you know?

Car companies can change, just look at Skoda...

mmmmmm I agree. A very tasty car. Shame it's french and WILL fall apart quite quickly. Bitter memories of past french cars.

Only 40K??? And you wanna change already?? That's way too soon IMO.

Hi There,

The 225 version goes like stink and does look great, however it suffers from the same problems as most 'new' style meganes. The computer is B**lox and causes nothing but grief, I've been at the dealer at least 20 times since brand new and once in the same period with my Octy. Apparently this is common throughout, granted most of the problems wont stop you driving, but telling you that your out of fuel on a half tank is a pain in the erse.

You'll know when you drive it if its for you !!! :D

Hi All,

Thanks for the opinions, much appreciated. I know 40K might not be THAT much mileage, I think its maybe just me wanting a change as I have had the car since it was 1500 miles old. The point about manufacturers changing is not lost on me either as I was kinda stepping into that zone when I bought my first Skoda. Since then I have really enjoyed owning them as they have been nothing but trouble free!

I am going to test drive the Megane tomorrow and will take it from there. I am going with an open mind, i.e more than prepared to walk away from a deal if the car is not for me. I also have experience trying to part ex my vRS before and can probably say in advance that I will get such a rubbish price for mine against the Renault that I will walk away from a deal on that issue too.

The Octy is fully paid (i.e no loans etc) so it isn't costing me anything except wear and tear/ fuel and servicing costs etc so should maybe just enjoy it a bit longer before taking the plunge any buying another car. We'll see what tomorrow brings.............

Thanks again,

Hugh

Ap0gee I covered this already, it called the 225 Trophy not the cup ;)

There's the Trophy @ approx 20k which I think may be even more powerful than the standard' one (or maybe just posher inside), the standard MeganeSport @ approx 19k, and the Cup @ approx 18k. :P

I know this, as Renault keep sending me their magazine even though I got rid of my Megane nearly a year ago, and have told them this on several occasions! :D

Hi All,

Took the Megane for a test drive, very nice motor in my opinion. Have put the Octy up for sale on here as the trade in offered wasn't that great. Not in a mega hurry to change but will see how it goes with trying to sell it privately.

Cheers

someone I knew bought a new meagane as a driving school car, he had it 20 weeks, and it was in the garage for 16 of those weeks. In the end he said, this isn't capable of being used for what it was sold for (i.e. a car) so give me my money back! and they did... full refund. he bought a ford focus, and has had no problems at all....

my vRS is now up to 8,000 miles in two months, and the only problem I have is a bonnet that's hard to shut! otherwise faultless! (and I'm sure the dealer will fix that at the 10,000 mile service :)

sharky.
