Plastic bit in front of door handle

Featured Replies

Stumbled across this just now on the Auto Express website:

'Our only other gripe concerns a piece of trim in front of the passenger door handle, which has fallen off. You can push it back into place, but it simply drops off again. What's even more disappointing is that fellow road tester Owen Mildenhall owned a Fabia two years ago and the same thing happened to his car - you'd have thought Skoda would have fixed this by now.'

This happened to me yesterday (my least favourite birthday present!), but I think I've fixed it by gently pushing the springy clippy bit out so it clicks into the little gap it's meant to - will post pics if necessary...

Odd things are - this is obviously an old fault, but looking in the hole that it covered, there's actually locating points for two clippy bits (one at each end), but the bit of plastic relies on rigid lugs on one end, and the clippy bit on the other

Think its so on left hand drive cars you can put the mirror control in there.

Mine did this constantly when I got the car, eventually I bent the clippy bit outwards loads and snapped it in place, 8 months later it's never happened since. You'd think they'd be able to fix this on the new cars if I can do it with a bit of bending.

Mine keeps falling off, tried bending it as much as I dare so it's over to the dealer. They better not just glue it!!

tried bending it as much as I dare

This was what put me off, I didn't want to snap it but It never stayed in. In the end I got so narked that I just forced it, and it's been fine.

Got the dealer to put it back in after this happened to me when I first got the car. Sorted it and it hasnt happened since.

The aforementioned bit of trim fell off mine within 4 miles of owning the car. Third time lucky (and using a hefty thwack) it stayed in and hasn't fallen off since.

Didn't make a particularly good first impression, I must say!

Is it the piece where the door mirror controls are, but on the passenger side?

Never had a problem with mine!

It allways happens.

The main reason I bought myself a butane hot melt glue gun. Pop out in the carpark, pop a bit of glue on the tag push it back in and hold for a few seconds.

Good thing is you can still lever it off as the glue breaks of quite easily but its strong enough to hold it in place.

I could do with that Lummox, on my wing mirror switch panel. Its been "loose" and falling off for ages since I screwed up its refitting and snapped off all the clips. :o

Sometimes I go around a corner quick and the switch has popped out fully and is hanging on by its wiring.

I had it fall of my previous fabia a few times. When my dad decided to be helpful and put it back on the bit ended up inside the door!!!

Dealer sent me a replacement in the post - in a standard envelope

The original only rattled for a few days before lodging in a secure place never to be seen again.

If the current owner decides to upgrade the speakers they are in for a shock.

On the long term Auto Car Review (1 year and 15k Miles) one problem they encountered was door seals peeling off. Has any one else experienced this? Mine had started to come away when I collected the car and it went back in to have a new one fitted, now its starting to happen again !! Any way you can solve this problem yourself as I find it a pain in the backside having to book the car in for a day and sort alternative transport etc.. NOTE POSTED THIS AS A NEW THREAD

No problems with the bit of trim your discussing (yet)
