First Sign Of Clutch Slip

Featured Replies

In the vrs id suggest help mate.

Tge boxes are heavy.

bought my fabia vrs back in march, 3 weeks after i bought it i had it remapped by a local company, they put it upto a maximum of 180bhp and 340ft lbs torque, as soon as it was done the clutch started to slip on boost badly, went to euro car parts and bought a solid flywheel conversion kit, fitted it and found the clutch that was in the car was a new one on a new dual mass, after 5 months of the solid conversion now the clutch is starting to show early signs of slipping again on boost. plus its slowly blowing my intercooler apart :( i do drive like a bit of an animal though, but only once its warm and i give the turbo a chance to cool before switching the engine off

In fairness that's what will heppen when you get it remapped to the very limit of the standard setup and then drive like a animal. I'm guessing its a bit spikey too which won't help.

I thought about 300ft lbs torque was the max sensible on standard clutch. 340ft lbs and id expect to be putting an uprated clutch in. Ive gone for a safe ish remap around 265ft lbs of torque with mine at 93k on original clutch as far as im aware.

My 2005 VRS is on 86k just put a shark stage 1 on via the STS unit

From how smooth my map is and the fact i don't nail my car everywhere im pretty sure i wont be suffering from any slip in the next 10k

Once it does eventually start to slip ill stick the original map back on to get the maximum life out of it

The pedal isnt a on/off switch, just drive accordingly. My clutch started slipping about 15-20,000 miles ago, I've just used the revs more and not launched it too much/hard. Still done a track day, had a few afternoons of hooning about without issue. As it gets worse I'll just drive more carefully until I get a new one.

Also, I'd say a decent smooth map driven carefully would be safe for a clutch than the awful spiky standard map.
