Rear wiper

Featured Replies

Driving mirror wouldn't be any use any way, without the rear wiper there will be zero visibility out of the rear window after 2 miles anyway!

.

That's what I said.

... I don't wish to upset people, but I have never heard anything more ridiculous that a suggestion that the rear wiper is removed because a car looks better without it.

.

Indeed.  Surely that original post was just a wind up?

In which case, I fell for it as well.  Dur.

It's called "modifying"..or for those who need bi focals to see because you have a dirty back window and cant see,it was called "customising" back in the day.

I honest can't believe how many of you rely on using the rear wash wipe to go forward?

WTF!

Maybe you should look were your going, and not worry whats behind you..

Edit: just realised I'm in the mk3 part of the forum..I should be talking about mpg,and what's on radio 2.

LOL

Yes, you're right. I fell for it also. Should have been wiser because I'm sure no-one in real life would really be daft enough to remove the rear wiper purely for aesthetic reasons... .....would they?

What is Radio 2?  Isn't that the Light Programme?

I always prefer the Home Service myself.

Regarding the topic being discussed: I suppose young trendy drivers never look out of the rear of their cars because they can't see anything behind them anyway, with those baseball caps turned back-to-front.

Removing the rear wiper on a car is something I would associate with someone who has a ten year old Corsa that has appeared on BarryBoys.

But if it makes you happy.

Thank-you, for all those asking why it's because I want to remove it. What other people think of doing so does not bother me.

Good for you, it's just a bit of harmless p**s taking, I hope you have the minimum of fuss and the maximum of satisfaction with your mod :)

No joke, rear wiper removal threads were rife on the MkII forum, more so on the hatch.

Strangely they would remove the wiper (for a cleaner look) but leave the rear spoiler on (vRS).

The rear spoiler hid the wiper anyway from every angle except above.

Whilst the OP should be applauded for not rising to the bait (well done OP), if there is one piece of advice I would offer it would be to wait a little while and first see how useful the rear wiper is on an estate during the colder months.

Oh no, there's more than one of them......good advice though silver 1011

Total agree..

If we all had the same outlook in life, this world would be very boring..

Just harmless fun..no harm with a bit of banter.

:-)

Thinking? Does that not effect car insurance (need to inform insurer?). For example, you reversed into a car which had a road safety camera in it. The accident would be recorded so you couldn't pop the wiper back in. The insurer could claim if wiper was fitted you could of potentially seen behind you and prevented accident. Insurer refuses claim and leaves you liable. Just a thought!

Thinking about it, wouldn't it make more sense to remove the front wipers?  They are more visible (from the front) and there's two of the wretched things, cluttering up your car and spoiling its aerodynamics.  Being on the front, they interfere with the airflow much more.

(I've only got one wiper on the front of my diesel estate car and I can see fine.  But that's the way it was designed.)

I quite like to look out of the rear window to check to see if;

a) The Gendarmes have caught up with me yet

B) To check to see if the 19 yo in the 10 yo Corsa with more Db than bhp has seen me

c) watch all the drivers behind answering the Pop master quiz

happy modding
