Rear wiper

Featured Replies

I have the new Vrs estate and wish to remove the rear wiper to clean up the rear of the car, does anyone have exploded diagrams showing this area to help with the removal??

I don't...but can supply the blank.

Can't be that hard.

Yes this will fit the mk3,

You will have to remove the complete assembly, arm, motor.

Usually held in place with 3-4 bolts.

Need to block off the water pipe too..with a screw etc..

You'll miss the rear wiper on the estate, wait until winter arrives.

I've never quite understood the reasons behind removing the rear wiper, a black wiper against dark glass is almost invisible anyway?

Where do you stop? Removing badges, the aeriel, exhaust trims, roof bars, etc.

Agree.  Rear wiper essential in my opinion.

Maybe I'm old and like to see what's behind me........ especially in an Estate.

Back end gets dirty even on a dry day.

Of all the 'mods' you can do to a car, don't mess around with the wipers.

It's all horses for courses and although I've never done it a couple of mates have in the past with 306's and Clio cups and I suppose it gave a cleaner look particularly on the smaller cars but I've got to say I was surprised how quickly the octy estate gathers muck on the tailgate and rear window compared to the x-type I had previously.

I'm in the keep it on category too - the cars a decent size and with the sunset glass I like all the visibility I can get especially when I'm reversing in dark, rainy weather aka summer ;-)

That said, if you take it off pop some pics up, just in case I change my mind!

I must be getting old as I too don't understand how removing a wiper cleans up the rear of the car. Surely quite the opposite as you will always have a dirty rear screen, lol! My old Superb II hatch or twin-door as they call it had no wiper and it was the main drawback of the car imo!

Exactly.

I agree, not even a remotely sensible idea. The Octavia is a great looking car, but it's no Pininfarina designed Ferrari. I used to have the latest shape Honda Civic not long after it came out in 2006, horrible car and one of the worse parts of the design was a lack of rear wiper. And the near vertical rear screen of an estate will get dirty even quicker.

Once I get my new VRS I'm going to remove all of the glass for that more open look. I really wanted a convertible and they didn't do one..... has anyone got a hammer

I had a 2007 Civic the worst view ever out of a car (lambo's aside).

What people have to bear in mind is how the air flows of the back of a car. If it sits in a vortex at the back window, in winter the dirty salt filled spray will cake up the rear screen in no time.

Other cars aren't effected so badly if the air is thrown further back.

.....and a tin opener

Amateurs.

The wheel arches interrupt the flowing lines of my car, so I'm going to remove the wheels and fill in the wheel arches.  It's going to look dead cool - I know that everyone will be really impressed.

Horses for courses..I suppose.

I never use my rear wash wipe on any of my cars, scratches the rear window with all the muck sprayed onto it.

My cars always clean, soon as it's been raining gets washed the next day...maybe you lot are getting old,and lazy!

Off to smoke me pipe now....where's me slippers...

:-)

Presumably the man carryting the red flag who walks in front of your car also mops the road dry, so that no spray is ever thrown up to make your rear window dirty.

If I were you, I'd de-clutter the interior as well, by getting rid of the driving mirror - it's not likely to be much use to you unless you only ever drive on bone-dry, clean roads.

Now your being silly..

LOL

Driving mirror wouldn't be any use any way, without the rear wiper there will be zero visibility out of the rear window after 2 miles anyway!

Do some of you people actually drive your cars, or do you just polish them and look at them?

I'm fairly new here, having ordered my first Skoda, and I find a lot of the information offered, or given, is very valuable/helpful but the attention to cosmetic detail from some of you is borderline obsession. I don't wish to upset people, but I have never heard anything more ridiculous that a suggestion that the rear wiper is removed because a car looks better without it.

Just wow.

I'll be doing all 3 but mostly polish and look at it as the missis will be the main driver.

Each to their own, newbie!
