still perfectly liquid, might try it on a bit you dont see first

If it spreads and glosses over with that sort of crust / flakiness I reckon it's pretty good, BTW - how badly have you been neglecting your various car's paintwork to have a 20 year old bottle of the stuff - Its not like a whiskey that gets better with age. ;) :P

TBH I wouldn't recomend using it on modern clearcoat paint. The older versions of T-cut (which I presume yours is?) were designed for use on solid colour paint jobs which were a totally different paint formulation.

If I remember rightly when using them on, for example, red paint you would end up with red residue on your cloth, showing that it cleaned the paint by removing the top layer of oxidised paint. Doing this on you clearcoat finish would be a bad idea as it would leave the very soft color beneath exposed.

You'd be far better using something which is designed for clear coat paintwork such as Meguairs DC#1 which is a non abrasive purely chemical cleaner and will remove light oxidation and surface dirt. Or if the paint is really bad try scratch X which contains diminishing abrasives and works wonders with large amounts of elbow grease.

Good luck and make it shine!

Don't get me wrong it wont make your paint fall off or anything like that. Just if you're as anal about me about keeping paintwork in top condition then I would choose something more suitable.

I'm sure it would get the muck off though.

T-Cut is an abrasive dissolved in a solvent. Bengie, if you want to use your old can/bottle, add some paraffin as a solvent.

If you use it to excess, it WILL make your paint thinner.

If a modern paint is covered by a clear coat, I can't see any point in cutting it, or adding any colour, as it's only the clear coat you're affecting.

Bottom line - try it on a small area out of sight and evaluate.

Go out now and try it on your neighbours car bonnet. If in the morning he asks you if you saw the vandals that attacked his car, don't use it!!

tbh its just that the paint is looking a little tired in places and got a little crap on it.

when i took my plates off tonight i found that the old ones had left horrid black/brown ish marks where it had rubbed so i used the t-cut on it to clean it and it seemed to work quite well. i'll take a better look tomorrow in the pure daylight to see how it has faired.

Good plan. Sure it wouldn't do too much harm just not all over the car every week. Small spots that are really dirty should be ok.

Be sure to look at the results carefully and in different types of light. Paint surfaces can look vastly different and show different defects more / less depending on the light.
