Poor FM signal

Featured Replies

So, my aftermarket headunit has really poor FM reception. I've since realised I should have an inline booster between the aerial lead and headunit. I've also found out the standard headunit supplies 5V down the centre aerial connector to power said booster.

Now, my question; Will a booster work with an aftermarket headunit? If not, does anyone know of an after market booster?

You need something like this mate  eBay item no. 190537923647. I fitted one to my Kenwood H/U works great. You just connect the wire from your H/U marked as remote connection/turn on or amp to the wire on the booster.

+1 to this however the blue wire is the dedicated antenna power. All i would say is use some insulation tape to secure the aerial connections as they are quite loose on the boosters.

Cheers guys, I'll get one ordered :)

+1 on Pats suggestion and drop your glove box to pull the booster over as you push the H/U into the dash, there's no room behind the dash on these.

Oddly, I have one of these on my vRS and still get no signal... Any suggestions fellas?

check the booster is getting power

U can get a booster from halfords but made no difference to mine but I swaped my alpine head unit to a sony explod and it's fine. Weird

Help! Can someone please explain to a dummy how to power the booster? Where does the blue wire go? Someone, somewhere mentioned position 5 on the black wire harness, but should that replace the existing blue/black wire? If so, how do you get it out?

Going balder by the hour.

Connect it to the aerial/amp output of the head unit. Can't remember what pin number it is off the top of my head, but its normally blue on an aftermarket head unit.

Failing that, connect it to the 12v ignition feed to the head unit
