What are standard tyres on vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi. As title really. What brand tyres should I expect to see on my vrs when I pick it up?

Mines got Continental Sport Contact 2 on it. Quite an old model although they're not bad.

Thanks. Do they pick something randomly then? The demo model I drove had Dunlops on. Maybe sportmaxx rt? I can't remember though.

Continental Sport Contact 2 on my TSI demo, I've seen dunlops though, maybe on the diesels?

The demo I drove was tsi. I've ordered a tdi so guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Well funnily enough I noticed the tdi demo I drove had Dunlop sport maxx tyres but my tdi turned up with sport contact 2's. The same tyres I had on a 53 plate Renault megane when I turned up from the factory too.

Funny to think about all the advances in efficiency and the tech in the car but it turns up with 10 year old tyres!

They're not too bad, just a bit noisy on rough surfaces

Mine came with contisportcontact 2's, i fitted contisportcontact 5's to the new wheels, i do like continentals

I have conto SC2's on my mk2 FL that I got last year and the fronts are knackered at 10k miles, seems a bit low, so I am hoping my mk3 turns up with something other than them, my wifes 13 plate Beetle turned up with Hankook's and they seem really good, I notice VW seem to be getting a lot of Hankooks at the moment, just wish the mk3 turns up with something other than the SC2's really.

My MK 3 TSI has Conti 2,the tsi in the showroom had Conti 2 and the Demo diesel had Conti 2.

I consistently got 25000 plus out of a set of Conti 2 in the past , so will be interesting to gauge the performance of them on the MK3.

N.B. I ALWAYS ROTATE FRONT TO BACK.

Grip in all conditions and longevity has always been good- one negative has been level of road noise.( road surfaces in UK don't help this.)

You get whatever tyre company that meets the minimum requirement and they offer the lowest price.

You would choke on your cornflakes if you knew what the tyre companies sell these tyres to SKoda for compared to what you pay at the tyre dealer.  Skoda/VAG are all too happy to buy tyres at 5 or 10 Euros less if it help their profit margin if it means having tyres on the car which means you cannot use the car to its best.

Th Dunlop Sports Maxx that came with the Octy VRS were so bad that they were worth changing at half life and they turned in to 50p peices with the chuncking distortion on the rear.  Fabia VRS came with Conti 2 which are quite an old tyre and Conti must be selling for peanuts to Skoda and were all squirmy after a bit so bought my extra rims and relagated the Contis to the back and put Michelin Pilot Sport 3s on the front which work fine in the warmer part of the year and then switch the Nexen Winters when the temperature is mostly below 10C.

I'll see what's on there and how they do. If they are pretty poor then I'll trash them and get the Continental Contact 5s.

the dunlops are appaling, they came on my new fabia vRS, I sold them a few weeks later as they ruined the car!

Dunlop SP Sportmaxx RT did well against the conti 5's in a review.

my review is in there....

I previously had a fabia vRS, it had contis on new, i did 50k in it, used maxxis Z1's to good effect , the old car had standard suspension, the new car came with dunlops and eiobach springs, and I was at a loss as to why it handled SO horribly, understeery hell everywhere... it was SO bad I wanted my old car back :( however after , by definition, realising it could ONLY be the tyres, I got rid) and the car was totally transformed! from being awful to being better than my old car....

I have heard they work better on heavyer cars, someone told me they needed heating up, so I waited until my first track day (1,000 miles into the new car) , and thats when they melted, and fell apart.....

a dunlop sportmaxx after 1,000 miles and one track day at bedford autodrome...

and a maxxis Z1 after a run to czech (at autobahn speeds) 4 laps of the nurburgring on the way back, and a track day at castle coombe....

they may work on the octy... we'll have to wait for feedback! ;)
