Indecision, indecision............

Featured Replies

OK, the latest Which? Car Buyers Guide put me off the Yeti with its drop from 5 to 3 stars for reliability.  So did the paintwork problems.  And the Octavia would make far more practical sense for us, with its much larger boot and rear seat space.

BUT

My wife still hankers after the Yeti.  She loves its shape, she loves its style and she loves its high seats.  So what to do?  Take the sensible course of action and buy the Octavia, or follow the heart, rather than the head?

Still undecided (our present VWs are old, but keep on going with no problems and little cost) but it's pretty much crunch time for the present Yeti, I suppose.

What are the options now?  I see that the Yeti configurator has disappeared from the website.  Are dealers still taking orders, and are there any good deals around on the 'old' model?  Is the 'new' one better?  or worse?  More expensive?  Is it better to wait for the new one?  Will the secondhand prices drop when the new one comes out?  Any thoughts?

Ah!

Been there (3 years ago)

My heart said Yeti

Wife suggested Octavia.

Guess wot we bought.

Definately more room in the boot though, but! part of the decision was that way back then Yeti were still highly desirable, therefore more expensive/harder to buy.

Now that the children have flown the nest, a Yeti would be fine.

hey ho

Off for a test drive this morning so hope I'm not disappointed. 1.2 petrol because a diesel would be no use to me with all short journeys and low annual mileage. Putting £800 on the FL prices has put me off a bit but there are some good deals on the current shape. Under £16,000 for a 13 plate Elegance with less then 7000 miles. If the test drive goes well I'll probably buy the current shape.

I definitely want a car with a high seating position, so, MPV or SUV. My current car a Ford Cmax will take some beating for good driving and practicality.

I'm in the process of heading back to the Octavia, although size wise the Yeti is much more practical for my needs. However I'm not keen on the new look and I have bouts of not getting on with the Yeti seat; fault with me not the car by the way. So sadly after two Yeti's back to back I've decided to see if something else could be a little more comfortable for me.

Reliability wise both Yeti's have been pretty good, with just the occasional need for a bit of minor warranty work.

Regard ordering then yes they can still be ordered, some are saying at the pre FL price but the dealer who I've done the Octy deal with is using the new FL price list already.

Suspect the configurator is down while they sort out the FL options (or lack thereof knowing SUK).

Options wise would be to recommend the heated screen if you go diesel; engine takes forever to warm up in the winter to give you heat to defrost.

My dealer is offering the FL Yeti at the non FL price for the rest of this month,  and 0% finance to boot (includes 3 years free servicing etc.)  Might be worth seeing if similar offers are available in your area.

The pre FL price is a Skoda UK incentive for all orders placed in October only, so must be offered by all dealers.

The 0% finance/free servicing offer is available until 31/12/13 on all FL Yeti ordered in that time, and again is a Skoka UK incentive.

I have taken advantage of both but not expecting delivery until next Feb/March unfortunately.

Obviously not all dealers are aware of the first incentive mentioned, seems odd that one but I suppose to be expected. SUK and their accurate communication with dealers or lack thereof; reason I had to reorder the first Yeti.

No contest, go with the wife! Your life will be much easier if you follow this route. :hi:

Like any major purchasing decision, this kind of depends on your particular set of circumstances. If I was paying cash and didn't want/need to add any options (such as Auto Lights), then I'd be looking for the best deal on a Yeti Adventure (so long as a 2.0 TDI is in your buying equation). If you're p/x'ing and looking for finance, then surely the SUK 0% finance/3 year servicing and holding FL Yetis prices at pre-FL levels until the end of October has to be well worth considering?

As for the Octavia, the Mk III is a great car (MQB platform, so bang up to date) and you can go for a 4x4 version and/or raise the ride height and have under-floor protection as an option. The 4x4 has a fancy suspension system like the Yeti-I drove a lower spec version and whilst perfectly comfortable, you could definitely tell when the torsion beam suspension was bumping over less than perfect road surfaces.

I couldn't make mention on the question of stone chips, as I've only just got my Yeti last Tuesday-'just fitted mudflaps yesterday, so I'm hoping this will help!

I have ordered my FL Yeti with 0% and they will honour my trade in value till March.

You could be right there, Fred.  On a practical level, though, how are people placing orders for the FL model?  Can dealers actually take a detailed order - I thought the specifications and prices hadn't yet been finalised.

They have all the info, and  the price rises £800 at the end of the month, and the old model can't be ordered any more, ordered yeti no 3 today.

I have been told right or wrong that all orders after August are being changed to FL models by skoda.

Do as you are told life will be a lot less hassle :giggle:

I have just bought a current shape Yeti (1.2 S DSG) yesterday with what I think is a good deal. Discount and good trade in. 29 miles on the clock. The dealer told me they were not taking orders for the FL yet and had no idea when any delivery dates would be.

That's odd - I gather most dealers are taking firm orders for the FL!

I know strange. I specifically asked the dealer about the FL because I was undecided wether to buy now or wait for the FL. I'm happy with the deal I've got but people are saying some dealers are taking orders and for the FL at pre FL prices.

"Planet Skoda".......it's a strange, strange world!!!

Odd, but helps to sell the car they have in the showroom I guess.

Orders are being taken with delivery around January.

But look on the bright side, the FL is the same car with an overstyled nose to follow a family of cars.

You've bought an original Yeti. ;)

Hi Richard. Yes I'm happy with the deal and car. I've just been back to the dealer to finalise some details and directly asked the question about FL's to the whole sales team. They again said they were not taking orders yet and didn't know when they would be.
