Yet another advice required thread

Afternoon all

I have a question I would like to fire all your way .. Brief overview time first... Car was surging when I bought on only under boost conditions.... Only fault code was a boost leak between inter cooler and dv... Replaced the dv with a forge style one with the correct rated spring in it and just in case replaced the n75 valve .... Car was actually sorted then no surge or anything then all of a sudden car sounded like it became supercharged...... Turbo I gear you all shout and I thought so do..... Into the workshop stripped pipes back to check turbo and absolutely nowt wrong with the old whoosher..... Boost pipes checked by pressurising each part of system with the boost tester we have here ..... Plumbed in a boost guage and the car was producing 14psi..... Mapped you ask??? Nope standard (as far as I'm aware) wound actuator down an got it producing 10 psi and car feels great ...apart from sometimes feels like someone has clicked a switch that controls the boost off during boost conditions ..... But the supercharger noise is still present.... Confused .com

So in short has anyone else experienced this or is it jus s trait of my octy?

Was going to change actuator and intercooler when funds allow as they are basically the last coupl of bits in the boost system I haven touched yet

Ta all for any advice

Have you checked for codes again?

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the same sound on low boost I've replaced every hose on the car turbo sounds sweet high boost but that sound at lower boost levels ? I've checked everything and ??????

I've scanned for codes daily especially after Southampton to Leicester and bk journey I do every week and no codes found weird one really

What are you using to scan for codes, VCDS or a code reader?

No cracks in the turbo housing? Also the was a thread some where on here where the guys waste gate wasn't sitting correctly. Maybe worth a check.

I just used a fault code reader I need to scan with vcds and logging etc I don't have vcds someone was gonna help do this for me but they disappeared any suggestion where I can get this done Southampton or Leicester area or in between ???

I read the thread on waste gate not sitting right interesting I'm gonna buy a used ko3s turbo and manifold rebuild with new internals then swap however not working at mo due to moving 160 miles south so funds are tight at mo but will get round to this soon

There are several VAG fault codes that generic code readers don't recognise so you need to get it on VCDS. Some logging on VCDS may help too.

Did you check the pancake pipe & hoses to & from it?

Have a look in the VAGCOM section of this forum & post a request for help.

I'm about 20 mins further up the M1 from Leicester if that's any help.
