Quick simple Question :)

What markup does the dealer make on options?

I was inquiring with my dealer (regarding my order) about adding the Canton... I asked

- How much would it cost

- Would this need to be on the deposit or added to the PCP payment

- Would it delay the build

Now, I had guessed a few answers to the above (from the forum) but I know that things change so I wanted to get it from the "horses mouth" as it were... After hearing nowt from the rep for a while I went and spoke to the dealership manager as I was passing. He apologised and assured me the rep in question (who I shall not name) shall get me the details so I could make the choice about whether or not to upgrade.

Fast forward a shade over 2 weeks, and no contact.... I ring the dealership today and get told "Dont worry Mr Williams, we've added it to the build for you! It wont affect the build time..."

Now, call me pedantic but that is not what I asked them to do..... So I want to go postal on the manager regarding the lack of responses and see if I can get the Canton included at cost (I dont think I'll get it thrown in free, I've already haggled pretty hard).... So any ideas?

I've just added a few options to my car and the cost of the items would be deducted from my refundable deposit.

I added sunset glass later on and the dealer said I'd need to pay cash for it when I collect the car..... They didn't even mention it when I collected it so I got them for free :)

I love a freebie!!

I'm paying cash for my vRS and got the canton upgrade for £330 quid (RRP £400)...

I notice youre in North Wales... did you get yours from Skoda Abergele?

I have always added options onto the price of the car and they have made up part of the monthly PCP payment, obviously you have the option to clear them outright at time of purchase to keep yoru payments lower if you wish.

One thing to bear in mind about options, they rarely make a difference to the final value, so you are paying 100% of the option price unlike the car where you are deferring  X percentage payment until the end of the term.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The ironic thing is that if I hadnt have called them, the Canton would be fitted without my knowledge and would've had (possibly tenuous) grounds to reject the car. If this sounds like Im trying to blag the Canton for free, then guilty as charged ;) but I still think the dealer wasnt doing as I asked, and communication has been shoddy since I placed the order!

I had been told they have the same 14% margin as they do on the car, that is on the ex-VAT price of the options, same as it is on the car.

Well, spoke to the dealer today and my build date has not been locked yet (so spare wheel has been added).

However, despite the utter lack of comms from the sales guys they wont shift on the price of the Canton.

Soo - Is it worth it?

I'm going for a listen to one in the morning. Hopefully will do a back to back comparison with a standard stereo.

The Canton is good, crank up the subwoofer and surround. Don't use mp3s, you need CDs or FLAC to make the most of it. Only the Columbus supports FLAC though.
