FABIA VRS - Power then no power

Featured Replies

All,

Was on the way to work this morning and notced the car was running a little jerky when slightly accelerating or holding speed. it was 530 in the morning so i just put it down to the cold.

When car was warm i put my foot down (wasnt giving it death) and noticed that after around 2500-3000rpm the car had a significant loss of power, asin it was barley pulling when i changed into 4th and arriving at around 60-70mph.

It seems a little unusual and but the power loss seemed to get better towards the latter part of the journey.

it had a new turbo around 3000 miles ago so im trying to rule that out?

any ideas?

Any fault light at all? Just double check your vacuum hoses are all sound and check your boost pipes too especially the bottom one.

No fault lights atm. (touch wood) Il give them all a check after work, anyone else with any idea?

Also try unplugging the maf see if it makes any difference. If it drives the same when you unplug it then it's faulty.

Will do man, cheers.

Right, so on the way gome from work last night i unplugged the MAF sensor at the industrial estate and took it for a drive, didnt really exceed speeds of 40mph but it didnt feel any differant to when the MAF sensor was plugged in. i went to pick up the new MAF sensor that the car dealership had ordered me only to find out that it was the wrong one...

Should be picking up the (hopefully) correct maf sensor today so im gunna see if this improves it..

one thing that is worrying me a little after speaking to a mechanic friend last night though, he looked around the car, went for a drive, and then i noticed that you can hear a intermittent boost leak sound? when holding at around 1700-2000 rpm not accelerating but on boost?

sounds like something sticking and letting air out now and then but you cant hear it when full throttle.

He thinks it could be the EGR pipe where it connects behind the engine leaking?

if that was the case would this couse the car to feel down on power especially after 2300rpm ish?

Smoke tested the car at the weekend, turns out the intercooler is split.

Cheers though.
