Octavia VRS Tyre Noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm now a proud owner of a 2011 Octavia vrs... Only thing I'm not loving is the road noise it create at 60+ mph...I do understand my tyres are conti sport contact 2 225 40 18 which are pretty low profiles.......

The question is any suggestion on a quieter tyre???? I'm happy to lose a bit of grip etc...

Please advise...

2 points to consider:-

  1. A 225/40R18 is never going to be as quiet as a 205 width.
  2. The quieter tyres are also likely to offer less wet grip and hence poorer wet braking.

Check out www.Blackcircle.com they have a noise level quoted for each tyre they advertise as a comparison.

I have a 2012 vRS with the same tyres and agree that road noise is far too high except on the smoothest of roads.  In my previous car I found Michelin Primacy HP tyres to be much quieter than Conti's.

Has anyone tried vred sessanta !!!! Been advised to try them...

Turn the Radio up, it's cheaper than new tyres, works for me plus I can't hear the wife nagging.

I would suggest the purchase of a box or heavy duty male chastity to prevent you suffering the same fate as Mr Bobbit did, if she's sees that post.

Just swopped mine to rainsport 2 and am genuinely impressed , very quiet and grippy and very good price on camskill site mate, highly recommended

Vredstein ultrac sessantas very quiet and have fantastic grip. £116 each fitted on Blackcircles at mo.

I have found they suit my tsi hatch perfectly.

Just about to replace fronts after 15k miles still a few k left but have track day in December so want new rubber for this and coming winter

Another good tyre is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

Had them before and they were excellent in both wet & dry and they were quiet.

I've got Conti Sport 2 and 3s and found them very noisy too. I just put my winters on this week and now there's noticeably less tyre noise as I waft along!

Can't recommend an alternative for the VRS, though I will continue to tolerate the Continentals as I've found their performance superb.

Thanks guys I hear Goodyear eagle...rain sport to be very good with the vred sessanta so it will be between the 3 and also dependent on price too...

Do your homework before you commit to an individual online retailer as shopping around can really save you serious amounts of cash, before fitting & balancing etc is added at a tyre dealer in your local area.
