Skittish ride

Featured Replies

Anyone with sports suspension on their octy 2 find the ride a bit skitish, ie the car seems to skip slightly side ways over rough or lump roads.

Im stating to notice it more as im getting used to the car, it reminds me of the citroen C3 i once had. i just put it down to the harder ride but now im wondering if somethings not right.

Sorry can't say I've noticed, the traction control cuts in quiet quickley which somtimes I feel unsettles the car I find.

Might sound daft - but have you checked your tyre pressures? If they are over-inflated it could make the car feel a little skittish when cornering.

Just a thought :D

first thing i thought of, thanks. But this happens while driving straight as well as cornering.

I've noticed that a bit as well, it does tend to be skittish at times

My Octy 95% of the time has excellent grip and handling even on the twisty stuff, (on good a or b roads) but it doesn't like the combination of poor surfaces and off camber, this does make the backend a bit skittish

I've just noticed that 'skittish' is the only word we know :o:rofl:

"fidgety" maybe, anyway I have found it similar in certain situations, of which I can't really remember other than it surprised me at the time. I at the time put it done to sport suspensions traits?

must be normal then (noticed by a few people), i put it down to the sport set up aswell, but that said i never had this problem in the VRS octy and thats got a sporty set up and an older design to boot.

After reading such good reviews about the ride quality of the MK5 golf i found it a bit of a shock to find this problem on the octy 2. Must be the suspension set up and maybe the wide tyres

The Mk5 Golf has ESP as standard and the reviews I have read are mainly for the standard suspension set-up. I tried am Octy with sports set-up and standard and went with the standard because it actually seemed more 'smoothly secure' - less skittish!

I also test drove the Octy with and without the sports suspension and have ordered the standard set up, although the pegasus alloys do look great. I found that the car handled very nicely with the standard set up and felt considerably firmer than my current mk 4 Astra. I didn't really notice any problems with sports suspension, it just felt a bit to hard for my liking.

ive got an 02 plate octy thats been lowered (by skoda using skoda parts) and this can sometimes feel a bit skittish. not really bad, but if i hit sunken manholes etc, then it does feel like its jumping a bit.

and its fitted with 17" wheels (by skoda)

What tyres? With the stiffer (not lowered), "sports" suspension, it seems to make a huge difference as to what rubber is used. Mine is on Dunlops. Normally, I wouldn't buy these, but it came fitted that way, and......... NOT A TRACE OF SKITTISHNESS!!!!!!!! This is true whether on motorways, country roads, OR the C**p roads in Coventry. Don't accept anything less than an excellent ride on Pegasus plus sorts suspension: it IS posiible, and it's how it's supposed to be!

My Octy2.0 TDI Elegance DSG has Dunlop tyres on the Sports suspension with Pegasus 17" wheels and I find that can be skittish on some uneven road surfaces.

I hadn't noticed any skittishness until this weekend. I was running with a heavily loaded boot (most weight right at the back) and it was a nightmare. Every pothole and even double painted white lines gave the impression the rear was about to break away, even in a straight line.

So, I would say it is a handling characteristic brought on by odd weight distribution. Certainly next time i'm off to pit crew for my mate i'll be loading the car differently
