I got a rattle

Featured Replies

And it's really annoying :(

It's on the n/s/r somewhere behind the panels. When going over bumps etc it taps on the bodywork. I've taken off the little flap that gains access to the light cluster and put my hand inside to feel for anything but it's all tight/fixed. I got a feeling it could be behind the speaker at the rear n/s. It sounds like a wiring loom tapping on the body.

It's booked in Monday afternoon at my dealers to sort out. I'll let you know the outcome.

I have just the same sort of light tapping from inside the drivers door. Dealer had it in but gave it back saying they couldn't hear it and therefore couldn't open it to look under warranty! Are all dealership workshops like that?,

My dealer are definitely not like that. They said they'll go out with me and pinpoint the noise then sort it out. I've got faith in them I've been buying from and using them for 8 years :)

Just a thought - have you tried the car with the rear seats folded down ? I had a car once that had an annoying rattle, very hard to trace and it was the catches that hold the seat in position !! At least that way if the noise increases you know its in the boot area somewhere.

Hmm good idea that :)

I'll drive it home later with them down. Thanks.

I know some Octavias had this.

Mine was on a Honda Civic. The fix was insulation tape around the fixed bracket that the lever locks around to avoid metal on metal contact :)

Folding down the back seats is worth an extra 50bhp too

No Neo you got that wrong, that's when you remove the parcel shelf

Just emptied the boot, dropped the seats down and took the parcel shelf out.Went for a drive. Still rattles behind the panels on that side :(

Now get someone to drive while you lay in the boot / on the folded seats to try and locate it ? I feel your pain - rattles annoy the hell out of me too

Just got back from dealers. Now rattle free. The mechanic stripped the whole n/s panels out and tightened everything and foam lagged the whole wiring loom that side. All noises gone totally. Better than the day I picked it up. Many thanks Meadens for your usual great service :)
