Standard pd150 turbo question

Featured Replies

I know the done thing is to get a pd150 and then hybrid it and get it mapped but what would it be like if I had a pd150 turbo and just mapped without hybriding it?

Just thinking the cost of doing the hybrid is quite high so wondered if there would be much of a power increase doing this or if it's not worth it unless going hybrid. I know I'd need a fmic etc but just wondered if it's worth doing if I can get a turbo cheap or if I should just get a stage 1 map and not bother with the turbo if it's not going hybrid.

I've done the intake and exhaust mods so looking to get it mapped ASAP but I reckon I can get a cheap turbo so just asking before I payout for a map and then decide to do it and need to map again. Cheers

Should see around 190 - 200 depending on map.

So in your opinion if my mate at the local scrapyard got me a pd150 turbo for around £150 it would be worth doing? I'm not after big power but just weighing up my options and I'd never pay a grand for a turbo so it will never go hybrid. Also do you know will the pd150 Fmic setup work if I'm running that turbo?? Thanks

A good reliable 190bhp will be available, so a 20bhp increase over a PD130 turbo. It's up to you to decide if its worth it or not.

As for the FMIC, if you put enough effort in anything can fit, I seem to remember it's rather large though.

I will see if he can get me a cheap turbo if not I will just get a map. I just wondered if they were a easy intercooler upgrade as I've never heard anyone ask I thought I'd ask the question. Thanks

Seat Ibiza cupra is what you want to look out for to get a intercooler.

Mines going on the rolling road next with with a standard PD150 turbo I'll let you know how it goes. Mine on the 130 turbo is sat at 177bhp 300FtB's so Hoping for 195bhp and 320FtLb's.

P.s can't see the point in spending £600+ on getting it hybrided when there's a guy on here's selling 2260vk's for around £400 now

With a manifold?

Cheers Tom I will wait and see what you make of it then. Are you putting a fmic on too?

From the threads I've read since joining I believe you can get 190bhp from a PD150 turbo without an FMIC, I'm sure someone will put me right on that if I'm wrong though.

My only gripe with those is that you need injectors which are about £1000 :(

Ditto Dan, that's why I decided otherwise, can't justify it.

Possibly but with a stock smic heat soak will be really bad so power wont be usable much I believe

It's still tempting though but I would want all the work done by Dirty Torque. I've just spent £1200 on the turbo, mapping etc so don't really want to go taking it all apart again just yet.

How is yours coming along mate?

i think he said they were in the process of making one with a bolt on manifold for the fabia wand it'll be around £700, can't remember thow.

You don't need injectors thow really, you can run it at low boost until you've got the money to sort stuff like that and then you've always got room for more power whereas with a hybrid you're going to be on its limits at the supposed '240 bhp', still yet to see one make that power.

will be after Christmas but not just yet

Mines not far off that with a nice smooth map, I'm sure if I choose to run it flat out with a pub talk map I'd achieve the figures. I like the idea of a larger turbo but I have trawled through graphs trying to find one making reasonable power below 2500rpm and not had much luck. Yes I'd love more power but only having it for about 2000rpm isn't the way forwards for me. That said I'm not looking to change my setup till next year so happy to be proved wrong.

whats it running at? I'd happily by a hybrid if one came about at a fair price, but you wouldn't catch me spending the best part of 1k on one to get maxed out at around "240" bhp when there's the option of the likes of the 2260vk, which will sit comfortably at around 260. Each to their own at the end of the day.

You're right, it is totally down to how someone likes to drive and how they use their car. Mine is a daily so I'd rather 220-230bhp from 1750rpm than an extra 30bhp right up the top but have to wait another 1000rpm for it. When you only have 5000rpm to play with that extra 1k wait would make a big difference. I guess if you're smashing it up santa pod/tracks most of the time it'd be more worth it. I really think if you go for the huge turbos to make it worth the loss of power in the lower rpm you'd need to run it at big power, as near to 300bhp as you can but then it obviously becomes very expensive. If you could get 260bhp+ and get it coming on song the same time as a hybrid then it'd be perfect, diesels just havent got the rpm to waste IMO.
