Horn Problem - weird

Featured Replies

Hi

I am facing a weird problem with one of the horns. Some time back one of the horns went dead and i replaced it with a Roots 90W dual tone horn. After a few weeks of smooth functioning, the horn started to behave funny. When starting the car after a long time (say 4-5 hours), the new horn would not work, after driving for about 10-15 minutes the horn starts working. This behavior is consistent and happens everyday in the morning on my way to work and in the evening on way back home.

I don't think its a battery problem, because don't see any related issues with any of the other components.

Any ideas on what the issue might me.

dbus issue?

Sounds similar to one I had in my Octavia Vrs. Mine wouldn't work on cold mornings until the cabin temperature had risen. I only noticed as my gear shift paddles didn't work either. After massive head scratching by my dealer it was traced to a faulty module. It was hard to diagnose as by the time I got to the garage the car was warm. I had to leave it with them for s few days so they could look at it first thing in the morning before the day warmed up.

Thanks folks, Will get this looked into in the next service at the dealer.

Are you steering wheel radio controls working? Remember mine not working too at the same time!

Well turns out to be a battery fault after all and found this out the hardway.

As usual I had to stop at my office enterance for a security check where they make you open the boot. Unfortunately security staff are never able to find the release switch under the boot door, so i have to switch off move DSG to P position, remove the key and the keypress middle button to release the boot.

Unfortunately today after this the vehicle just would not start and started throwing all kinds of error. You can imagine the scene, me stranded right at the gate blocking all other vehicles behind me, and since the gear (Automatic) was in P position, the damn vehicle cannot even be pushed aside.

Fortunately remember reading in the manual about the emergency unlock procedure and followed that. Was able to unlock the gear from P position and move it to N. The security staff then helped me push the vehicle out of the way.

Never been so embarrassed in my whole life. Anyways called the skoda helpline and after being bounced around with the "Sorry sir.. please call this number as they are closer to your location".. finally a few hours later the techie arrived with a spare battery.

Now the surprising thing, was when he connected his battery in parrallel with the car battery, the car started up just fine. He let it run like this for about 10 minutes and then disconnected his battery and tried starting the car.. no response. But during this time all other electronic devices like music, Door power windows, 1 horn would work fine, the second horn was totally dead.

Finally had to drive to the workshop to get the battery replaced. Now alls well.

Personally, I would like to see (hear) the return of the General Lee air horn from the Dukes of Hazard to our roads.
