What to replace my VRS?

Jag XF?

Arguably better value second hand than 3 series or A4.

Need to make up your own mind on quality.

mmmm, Jag XF is a nice car, although a bit big, wouldnt they be 5 series/A6 sized?

Yep & perhaps I think other peoples choice of car is pure cack too but am far to polite to say on this forum.

If people get upset over someones opinion on a car by someone on the internet then they need to grow a thicker skin. Not everyone is going to like everyone else's cars or choices. My FiL used to regularly slate my Octavia but loves my Superb and has gone to look at one!

Yes probably closer to a 5/A6 but for 3/A4 money.

Yes, I can see sense in your approach and I like it as it gives more insight.

(Just working out the impact this could have on my finances actually...hehe)

the 12k over 3 years, okay, does that include the fact you have been given 2 years free service?. bet that doesn't take into account the initial purchase right?

Purely purchase price - predicted selling price after 3 years divided over 36 months, a bit like a PCP.

I did get 2 years free servicing, and with it being practically new get 3 years warranty. So no other forseeable costs until the 1st payable service at the end of year 3.

So only tyres & fuel to pay, the £12k is the actual cost to own through the first 3 years and compares very well to other less premium cars when you look at it like that.

I think with high ticket price cars, especially S & RS Audi's, the trick is to buy nearly new as the value drops like a stone as you drive them off the showroom forrcourt, but after that they seem to have really strong residuals.

AFAIAC; TSI (or TFSI) engines are the way to go.  (specifically the 2nd generation EA888 series)  (and bearing in mind the issues with single lobe cam actuated fuel pumps)

If I may,

300 bhp,

an economy of 35 mph,

excellent reliability,

cheap running costs,

easy to mod,

fun to drive...

I think you need to re-evaluate the car you currently own, as the car you currently drive appears to be the perfect answer to your search criteria, difficult to better really.

If you have the itch after 3 years, you need to ask yourself:  are you looking somewhere else because you are bored of the understated package a skoda represents?  Or do you have the cash and hence you can afford to browse  (in which case you might be in a position to relax your criteria and hence widen your catchment area)

(would love to buy your car but N.Ireland is just a little too far, lol)

You are right of course, and its another option Im considering, but after a few years I always get itchy feet, hard to resist something different!

Think what I need to do is go look at and drive the cars Im interested in, then assess from there if I can justify they expense, I would be more sensible selling up and buying a cheap runabout and putting the cash into my Mortgage, but I have my car as a my reward for working, as I dont smoke and rarely drink these days.

Same here buddy. Since having a child I gave up my Man Utd season ticket and going on the sauce so now my car is my reward. Yes it's expensive but you've got to have something to enjoy.

What about an Octy 4x4?

You could always get Vrs bumpers if you wanted that look and could tune it to your liking :)

no 4x4 Octy with the 2.0 turbo engine, otherwise It would be the best option, I was looking at those BMW 335D/535D, very tempting option too if I can find one in the right price bracket, think Im going to set myself a limit of 25K, I reckon thats as far as I can stretch finances, and the lower below that the better!

25k equals S4.

25k equals S4.

25k + 1k = 410+bhp S4 :)
