Please someone help... sluggish 110ASV

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2004 1,9TDi ASV lump. It was fine but now its playing up. I want to get it running as it should before i start replacing injectors and re-mapping.

Symptoms:

Sluggish to pull away below 2000 revs

Slight smoke when pulling away

General loud engine noise

Shudder when the engine switches off

Background and attempts to fix:

The car has had a couple of overboost errors, the turbo has dropped out and when this happens the car sounds generally noisier like it does now. It sounds like a standard old diesel tractor. I have tried:-

Mr Muscling the turbo (sorted the overboost and generally livened the engine conclusion - worked

Replaced MAF (slight improvement not much)

Reversed the pipes to the ASV (manually closing it doesnt kill the engine, should it?)

Replaced Fuel Filter

Used LiquiMoly

Replaced Air Filter & checked snow filter

Visual check on boost pipes, OK

Brake torque test, no hissing, or I couldnt hear any

Disconnected the EGR, no difference

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

SVO or WVO is thicker than diesel, are you thinning it with something? I find at 10% SVO 90% dino mine starts to get sluggish and mpg drops off.

Don't know why as others don't get these problems from what I understand.

Yes I add 10% or so RUG plus acetone and it is almost the same as Dino. Have been doing this on 4 cars over 3 years. All the same. Its something car related this time, not fuel related. Im on 100% Dino to prove that one with a new filter.

It could be one of the valves on the bulkhead, N75 I think is one, or the boost sensor but It feels wrong.

I have read that you can adjust the turbo actuator somehow.

Checked the fuel sender in the fuel tank?

no, does the 2004 ASV have a filter on it? I was under he impression it was much older TDi's? Guess it wouldnt hurt to pull it out.

I don't have a link atm but try googling "TDI fuel sender mod". There is a small check valve in it which can become blocked and makes it hard for the engine to pull fuel through. You can either clean it or drill out the check valve. From what I understand its a bit of a bugger to drill out though.

What's the timing like? Do you have access to VCDS?

Checked the timing, waaay retarded. Off the chart. WVO needs to be top line advanced wo thats where it is now, at 66 whatever it is in units. Much better drive but still smoky. Lumpy tickover, it feels like its overfuelling now. I have backed the fuelling off 10 units in VCDS. Ill see what its like on the drive home tonight.

Absolutley no smoke when i start and its cold now. Not like it used to be before i sorted the timing. It was a smoke machine!!!
