looking at a roomster

Featured Replies

right guy's not my usual section but the spirits the same, looking at maybe buying a roomy, thinking 1.9 about 07/08 any issues please, for some reason I think the 1.4 may be slow but it's for the mrs so not that important but be nice to do the longer runs .

Found a car in st helens with decent history and will bob over it's a 2 but not sure we need the glass roof .

Any imput will be appreciated

Pete

I would not have considered a glass roof as a specced extra, but having one on the ex-demo one I bought changed my opinion completley. Makes the cabin much more light and airy.

Engine wise I've never driven the 1.4tdi but around the time I was buying there were one or two folk commenting how they wishes they'd gone for the 1.9tdi.

It is essentially a de-tuned Mk1 fabia vRs engine and at that age no DPF to worry about.

Worth noting its a 5 speed box not a 6.

I've just changed the fuel filter on mine ahead of service schedule to cure a misfire, other than headlights (projector on my scout) being Cr@p (sorted with aftermarket HID kit) and the bulbs being a PITA to change its never missed a beat.

That's great mate ta, just spoke to fluffy who said the same, wasn't even thinking about changing jackies fabia till an old guy wrote it off, hence the search.

Not that easy to find tho frankly , maybe people hang on to them.

I echo everything J5 has said, especially regarding the glass roof.  I would not want a Roomy without one.

I've never regretted having the 1.9TDI - lots of low-end grunt with none of the turbo lag of the 1.4.  Mine always returns over 50mpg.

Make sure the cambelt was changed at the fourth annual service and you'll be fine.

Hope he's well. I'm running the RARB he had fitted to his Roomster back in the day.

Cheers mate, the 1 were looking at has all the stamps but will change it asap anyway always do tbh.

If you're looking for downsides, I'd mention reversing visibility - the wheels close to the corners is helpful, but the bottom edge of the rear window is pretty high up ( as with many modern cars ) so I admit I quite enjoy my rear parking sensors ! The swooped lower rear edge of the drivers window is a bit disconcerting too, although you get used to it. Because its a high vehicle you get noticeable wind resistance if you happen to be ( hypotheticaly of course ) travelling much above the motorway speed limit.

Upsides - ludicrously practical, comfy on long journeys, fuel efficency is good tho not amazing ( I have 1.9tdi ).  I've done about 20,000 miles in mine this year and its far and away my favourite out of all the cars I've ever owned ( of which the best others were probably a focus estate and a fabia mk1 VRS ). The teanage kids love it, which kind of surprised me because I thought they'd think it was a bit frumpy :p

Oh - and if you can, get one with roof rails as it has no proper gutters to fit roof bars to otherwise. Not that I've yet found anything that I wanted to move that I couldn't fit inside, anyway ( as the passenger seat tilts all the way flat you can put surprisingly long, large items in - 2.2 meter bookcase last weekend )

Going to look at 1 fri afternoon, good history but not sure on the beige colour but the mrs likes it, hopefully be a good 1 as I don't like trawling around like I used to

Hello all,

I'm new on here, recently traded in my awesomely frugal (remapped to 99bhp)1.4tdi Mk 1 Fabia hatch (76.5mpg all summer) for a Roomster 2 1.9tdi in kingfisher/peacock blue on a 57 plate.

You might want to take a peek on the website of Castleford Car Centre who have a Corrida? post-office red Roomster on their forecourt, can't tell you much as it's on the fast straight A656 roman road just north of Cas, en-route to M1 jn 47. (Or off M62 jn 31 then crawl thru Cas).

Mine had 59k miles, aircon needed "refreshing" £29 at DMK, both front electric windows failed (new RH motor/regulator £310 inc £100 DMK diagnosis), agree headlights are poor, may try a set of those better bulbs, went for one with the roof-rails (a pair of well-used cross bars was included, handy, also towbar and electrics (didn't want these)

Tyres very noisy and "draggy", awaiting fitment of two Goodyear Efficient Grip performance next week, should be quieter and roll more freely.

Would like a slightly lower idle speed; can re-mappers adjust this?

Does this site have an "Accessories for sale" section, as I've now got a surplus to requirements pair of Thule roofbars, brackets, load-stops for the Mk 1 Fabia hatch.

Cheers

Our last 3 cars (roomie, yeti, current roomie) have all been the Cappuccino Beige, and I think it is as practical as a car color can be. It really never looks dirty, but when washed looks extra clean. I think it is a good colour for the Roomster.

^^^ I'll second that, my Cappuccino Roomster should have been Mocha, (thanks for that cockup Skoda) but I ended up with metallic hearing aid beige one, It never looks dirty under normal road conditions.

I have a 1.4 tdi Roomster, cant say ever noticed any turbo lag car pulls well in any gear above 1500 rpm. fuel consumtion 55 to 60 mpg over the last 30,000 miles. Just love the car.
