Love a bit of pink paint restoring!

Featured Replies

WOW!

looks good, just a shame you couldn't make the rest of the corsa disappear :P

Can you list what process and pad/polish combos you used?

It will help others who may wish to tackle a job like this

Thanks

Not a very long process at all

1) decontaminated with Tardis, then washed and checked tar gone.

2) Rotary polisher, blue pad (I forget brand, could be "lake country?", but its a tougher one) with 6/10 Meguairs polish "Dual action Cleaner polish" I think it was called.  Speed 1.5 out of 6 on the EP801.

3) Follow up with DAS6, a mid strength pad, and Autoglym super resin polish.

4) wipe clean with microfibre cloth

5) hand apply polish in areas pad couldn't reach, edges of panels, around badges, etc.

I didn't do any sealing in etc, as I suspect this may go pink again very quickly, so I might follow up with another cut (the roof I am suspecting the most) and then probably try the new tin of Colly 915 on it.

Good work, your colleague/mates wife must be well chuffed with this!

She sure was.  "Took years off her" - her words  Always good to get positive feedback.

Made the amount of alcohol I consumed at their wedding worth it :D

Cracking job! Well done.

Not only is it amazing how the red turns to pink over time (and it always seems to be Vauxhalls) but also how relatively quickly and easily it can be returned to normal.

Nice work.

Been getting some practise in on my donor porsche.  Getting used to the flatting back and polishing up.  In this case I polished up using a wool pad and cutting compound, as I had some deep down marks to remove.  Didn't get them all out but my arm hurts now :D so I shall save that for another time.

My Mum's old car which blew a ring. So changed the engine and had to restore all the paintwork after she'd let it get so bad :-/  Looks like a completely different car now!

Vauxhall Flame Red is one of THE worst colours for fading...

Great work Alex!!

Cracking results - what product for that Alex?

Menzerna Polish by the looks of it

Cheers guys :-) Yes I used Mazerna stuff. Had to do the car quickly, so hit it with a heavy cut pad on my DAS-6 Pro with the heaviest cutting polish they do. Then went at it with a medium polish and medium pad before just giving it a quick wax. It's not perfect as it was done quickly, but it's completely transformed the car!
